Cambelt kit deal

I have heard though the grape vine that there is a retailer that sells a complete genuine cambelt kit dephaser the lot for about £360 (roughly)
can anyone confirm or deny this statement if so maybe let me know the retailer in question?

renault wolverhampton may sell them for this price, you'll have to ask them.
 
Yeah, i can buy it in a tad cheaper than what adam sell it for, but its not worthwhile trying to sell, package and post for the same price.
 
Thats the plan i had to sell parts, falled at the first hurdle. I can match most of the prices that Adam does, but then it becomes a game that isn't worthwhile chasing.

Most of the stock i source in, doesn't come through the dealer network, hence why i can get good margin's on the parts, similiar to what Adam buys in at.
 
yeah its bad at the minute we're not allowed to source from anywhere else other than renault.theres a place in scotland that buys direct from renaults suppliers autoequip iirc
 
Do they come all renault branded then?

I buy from a company in the UK. I'm surpised to have to buy direct from Renault, i work in the trade and whilst we have targets to hit with manufacturers we are free to purchase from where we like.

lucky git is all i have to say we have set suppliers and if we differ from them then you knuckles are getting a whack.... only reason i thought id ask as a tech at work mentioned it to me..
 
Cheapest I've found is if you try and find end of line stock on the Continent, I paid only £68 for my dephaser from Renault Portugal, they had a few aux/drive kits too but I'd already bought mine from here.

It's the same where I work re suppliers, we used to be able to buy from wherever and with a bit of paperwork claim the money back,.. now we are limited to one supplier unless they can't supply the parts within a week, any deviation comes out of our own pay! Causes all sorts of issues.

So if there's fellas on here saying they can get both genuine Renault kits and dephaser on non cup models for £278. Why do others say £610 fitted? U telling me that its £330 labour? Or am I missing something cos that seems crazy. Or is it that there's money in it because of what the job is?

IIRC it's not a quick job, something like 6/7hrs book time. Also remember that labour isn't just someones time, it includes; Rent, heating, lighting, tools, phone lines, internet etc etc etc. So to me £330 doesn't seem too bad IMO.

For example let's say the labour rate is 45 pound an hour plus vat, times that by 6 and you have 270 then add you vat on top of that?

You get what you pay for really and you'll see that from the amount of horror stories on here about belt change f**k ups and timing being out causing detrimental effects on performance.

I do mine myself as I have all the tooling from Renault and a technician myself, the belt itself isn't overly difficult (no different to a zetec se in terms of floating setup) but it's the amount of s**t that needs removing first that takes the time.

We as businesses charge the parts out at retail. Not only that but the parts you've listed isn't everything.

With my £610 fitted, you get:
Cambelt kit (£150 retail)
Dephaser (£176 retail)
Aux kit (£65 retail)
Camshaft seal kit (£24 retail)
Crank bolt (£12 retail)
Elf evolution SXR Oil (£46 retail)
Oil filter (£7.94 retail)

That's £480.94 in parts. Now my normal hourly rate is £45/hour. The job is 7 hours book time, that takes the total to £795. Still think we over charge?
 
Not going on the defensive here but some balance is needed to this discussion - Another minor point that is always overlooked on forums and FB groups (How I despair at the FB groups some days) is that we are legitimate trading business rather than DIYer's taking cash jobs in the evenings - A "Business" by definition has to make a profit by "trading" (aka providing a service or services) to pay it's over heads as well as pay us something at the end of the month.

We do the 172/182 AC vehicles with dephaser currently for £590 including VAT at the current rate of 20% (That price is coming down in April as we've just had our prices restructured by Renault UK yesterday). From that price though the business actually makes £151 and some pocket change on that job as our "fee" (which is not to be confused with what I actually take home in my pocket not to mention HMRC's percentage). I wish I could do this job for nothing i honestly do but I have food to put on my table, a car on my driveway which I like to enjoy on track days, a mortgage to pay each month so I have somewhere to put my table and sit my family around to eat food, etc... If you want a £278 belt change buy the parts yourself from Adam and do the job yourself.

Comedy. The traders on here offer IMO a very good price for a fundamentally important job on a 1*2 (get it wrong and it's tears before bedtime), and people still think it should be cheaper. FLOL.

You should all work for free iirc. Greedy capitalist pigs.

I think that's bloody cheap! My mate does mine on his days off and charges me £100. But that's £100 in his pocket.

Out if your £150 profit, I bet you net nearer to £80.
 
Agreed Comrade Cubster - See the one we had yesterday which came in for belts & dephaser which was rattling (Or was it)?

I appreciate that the cars aren't worth the £9k figures that they were years ago but still the job is the job and you can pay for someone to do it with no come back or support if it goes wrong or you can pay someone reputable and professional to do the job. Cheapest isn't always best but neither is paying thru the nose for a service. I get asked all the time to fit supplied parts or match some other garages price to which my answer is always "No" because I cannot warrant the supplied parts nor will I work all day for nothing (Let someone else be a busy fool).

My advice to choosing a "Specialist" is do some homework on Google/Forums/FB based on previous customer experiences/customer reviews (actual customers not review "Stooges" giving fictitious 5-star ratings on a website) and then make an informed decision about what you feel is right for you. Anyone can set-up a FB page and claim they know what they're on with but a really good company will come into its own supporting you *IF* things don't go quite to plan or completely wrong.

Yeah it is cheap Daniel and i've been told several times by others on here that we should really be adding another £100 to the job but thankfully my overheads are small-ish compared to others so I don't have to make £3K a month just to break even. I'm off to see a new workshop later this morning which will allow me to take on help (So i'm not in at 2.30am like yesterday) so I know prices will have to change slightly to allow it to work but the business is doing okay without the need to have peoples pants down.

If only the VAT didn't have a had in my pocket life would be so much sweeter LOL
 
I've just de registered for VAT. Can't wait to start trading again without it hanging over my head.

You have 5 options with regards to the belts and depahsor on your car as far as I can see it:
1) Dont bother changing them and just hope
2) pay a main dealer a grand or so, and it will be done reliably but probably not timed perfectly
3) pay some random backstreet garage 500-700 quid and its a total lottery if it will be done properly and if it will be timed right
4) pay a trader like Mick or Dan on here around 600 quid, and it will be done right, timed spot on and the best job you can realistically get
5) buy the bits for 300 quid and have a go yourself

Personally the only options on that list I would recomend are 1/3/5 and I would only recomend 1 if its a 600 banger to smoke around in till it goes pop then get your money back breaking it.

I'm a bit of a paranoid android so I'm planning on doing the belts at some point in the next 10k miles. It's on 60K at the moment and was done on 39k. I have a place in Glasgow that knows the f4r and has a great rep. He will do the job perfectly but he's not cheap. Anyone know anywhere up here that would be decent?
