Cambelt price with engine removed?

  172 Ph2
I'm going to view a 172 Cup tomorrow and trying to factor in the cost of belt change.
Along with the other things i know it needs, im struggling to make the numbers work, if its costing circa £600.
How much would i save if removed the engine and took it on a pallet to a specialist for the cambelt?

Might be worth having the clutch changed too, while the engine is out.

Yes i planned on doing the clutch myself whilst its out.
I''d have thought removing the engine is easier than correctly doing a belt change correctly.. ?

You must be joking, a friend had his 182 done at Diamond a few weeks ago, and was on his way home 6 hours after arrival!
ED are closest to you.

Furry muff.
Hopefully this Cup is non A/C then, as there is almost £100 difference in price to an A/C model, judging from the Engine Dynamics site at least..

Sorry are you saying the price i'd save in labour is negligible ?

If you costed your time for removing & replacing the engine/gearbox, paid for delivery & retrieval on a pallet, you could well be out of pocket.

If you don't have the dephaser & water pump, it`s down to £324 for a non aircon 172 Cup, drive in and drive out, easy.

Would anyone do this job and NOT change the dephaser and water pump though?
I was planning on taking it over myself (wouldn't trust a courier)
But i fear you are still right.
What are we thinking a ok condition Cup is worth these days? (But with no history..)

I'd 100% get the dephaser done, if you don't and 100 miles later it starts to rattle then you have to do the cambelt job all over again.

Water pump is easy with the engine out and you can replace that yourself.

What's the mileage?

The choice is yours, although if these parts are worn then that would be the time to replace.
I did the cambelt on my old ph1, nothing was wrong with the dephaser at the time but after I'd removed it and drained the oil out, once I'd fitted it back it was starting to rattle.

I left it as was because I did the belt again once I fitted cams and had head work done.

If there is no history at all do the lot.
If the dephaser & pump had been changed 5 years ago, but only driven for 18,000 miles, just the belts would be acceptable.

Difficult to price without details, but it`s generally agreed Cup prices are on the up, and £2500 would not be out of order for a clean one with the belts etc done unless it`s got mega miles.

Yep, this is the potential value i was working with. Not that its all about money, but if im going to plow some funds into a Clio, i would like it to be one that holds its value.
The other advantage of getting belts done professionally vs DIY is the all important receipt.

Dephaser yes, water pump not necessarily.

Its driven by the aux belt so not difficult to change down the line.

It's not but it's still a bit of a t**t and tight to get out.
Why wouldn't you do it while the engine is out is beyond me, it's not like they are expensive.

I thought it was decided that spending a day taking the engine out and putting it back in was a non starter?

  dan's cast offs.
belts are a doddle on a cup, i had the cams out of a non aircon the other week in half an hour. water pump is easy to do with the engine in.

Haha correct. I was just looking at options to reduce costs really, but as mentioned, its probably not worth the effort for a small saving.
Although if it coincided with a clutch change, it may be worthwhile.
