cambelt snapped on 172

Can anyone give me some idea of the damage done when the cambelt goes on a 172? Mine has gone after 34000 and Renault are being a little cagey about exactly what damage has been done and believe it or not if its covered under the warranty.

Anyone got any advice?

i would have thought thats a warranty job how old is it?

i hasnt done 60,000 miles so thats ok but is it 3 years old?

PS if not renault will pay 80% if its outta warranty

The damage will depend on revs at the time.. if it was idiling it may not be too bad (still bad though) but if it was at 7250rpm then your probably talking major damage.

You could be lucky if it was only low revs. Might just be a couple of bent valves. Or it could be very messy:sick:.

Renault have decided they will pay for it and say there is only slight valve damage. Not entirely sure this is true as its apparently going to take them 3 weeks to fix the bloody thing.

And to cap it all off they have given me one of the bloody awful new meganes to drive round in and its a deisel.

Oh no - feel gutted for you mate. I heard there were a few 172s (mk.1s) with timing belts that were destined to be faulty early. I read it somewhere. I think if you go to http://www.renaultclio172.comwww.renaultclio172.com or whatever its called, the guy on there found some tech note about the cam belts or something linked to them.? Im sure ive read about it. But if theyre paying for it then youre fine....
