Cambelt timing

Just done the cambelt on my 172's engine. I borrowed the 3 tools needed from my Renault dealer and followed the Renault guide to the letter. But after removing the cam locking tool, turning the motor over a few time to make sure the belt is tensioned properly i found that to get the locking tool to go in it needed a little persuading.

The guide says the no force should be needed, i wouldnt say i had to use force to make it fit but it doesnt just slot straight in. So i decided to go through the whole process again and it is still the same. I marked the cam pulleys before tightening them up both times and they alignment was still fine after tighening.

Is this how they normally are, or is the timing still not correct?

there's always a little spring in the VVT pulley which makes it move slightly. Should be pretty minimal though. Sounds ok how you've done it
