Cambelt went today :'(

Why are you worrying about how much it costs to fix? You said you got it 2 months ago and it had a 3 month warranty, surely the warranty will pick up the bill?

Or am I totally missing the point?

You're missing the point, unless they'd already been done then they were 2 years overdue when he bought the car. Ignorance prevails.

Echo what someone said about going back to the garage u got it from. Engine failure after two months- I'd be wanting a contribution at least.
What because people can't read service schedules?

I might sound like i'm coming over unsympathetic, but thats because I am. 5yrs/72k cambelt interval and you're brave to let it go that far imo.

Now if someones done a pikey job of the belt previously thats another matter.

I feel for you mate I was in a similar situation not long ago bought all the belt kits waterpump etc was gonna send it in to the garage to get it all fitted then one if the cambelt pulleys decided to brake up and the timing slipped a tooth thankfully I only needed the head re honed and new valves for a peice if mind still cost a whack though.

first post says thats what he was planning on doing on the 20th.

he had already had the car for 2 months!

you can have a car with just 10 miles on the clock, if it's not serviced when required it's a bag of s**t!

hope it gets done for a reasonable price, theyre expensive jobs to have done!

I couldn't afford to get it done IV been saving for it :( was only three weeks away :(

IV spoke to a few specialists now so hopefully I'll get it sorted :)

Thanks for any help guys :) just the waiting game now :(

Good luck with it mate! Just un-lucky this time but hope it all gets sorted and doesnt put you too much out of pocket...

If the garage sold it you with FSH in the description, maybe you can get something towards a contribution as it hasnt had the belt done which is every 5 years.

bad luck on this one :S would a failed pulley cause a brand new belt to fail though??

yeah it does, my idler/guide pulley under the dephaser failed. plastic breaks off the bearing part and gets smashed up. belt slips around and knackers the timing.

To the op, dont worry about the people getting on your back about not changing it sooner, You didnt post up on here to explain to them why it never got changed, whats done is done! cambelts are a very touchy subject for some people on this forum.

Its not the belt, usually its the pulleys or aux belt not being changed. Lots of garages just change the belt, when it should be the full KIT changed, which includes the pulleys ;)

The cambelt is the first thing you should have got changed! its 5000 miles over due. Only yourself to blame really.
