Cambelt - What Should I Do

Ok, well the Willy is well over due for a good service...

Spoke to Renault yesterday, and they want £330 for a full service, I thought fair dos-probably sounds about right...

Then I asked for a quote on getting the cambelt changed, they couldnt give me a quote for parts, but labour alone was £447!!!

Noway I can afford that, so I just checked on the BB site, and they can do it for £157+Vat all in, and K-tech can do it for 137+Vat.

Do u think I should try and find the money and go with Renault, or will BB/K-tech do just a good job...maybe even better?

renault are monkeys!

bb service history gotta be good!

use bb or ktec mate theyl do a better job renault will have aprentices working on the car!

Yeah I would like to keep a reno history, cos itll look good for when I go to sell her in the future...

But im sure anyone who sees that the cambelt was changed by BB or K-tech, would know a good job has been done???

youd be fecking mad not to take the car to BBPT for the cambelt!! BBPT are very professional !! They know more about clios then any renault dealer! they work on them all day long. The only problem with BBPT tho - is there loction. They are based in the middle of nowhere sadly, and they dont offer a hire car. For a cambelt and full service would take almost a full day so youd have to hang around.

My cambelt was due, worked out to be something £350ish to have BBPT do it which i thought is very good (inc FULL SERVICE and parts) (loads of my friends have had work there, and i had a service done not to long ago too) so i know how good they are.

Torsion tunning are very good also - there quote was cheaper then BBPT - but again they live in the fecking sticks. So difficult to get to.

In the end i got fed up, decided to go for a williams convertion. Which worked out £1350 fitted !!!! (with a new cambelt lol) The way i saw it was cambelt was costing almost £400 which is at the 72,000k stage, after that its only a matter of time before the clutch goes, thats another £500 big ones. (however i only do motorway miles so maybe mine would last longer) So i think i done the right thing in going the 2ltr route.

mate, if you showed me 2 service books - one with renault stamps, the other with BBPT stamps - id take the car that had been looked after by BBPT. Tho to most of the public they wouldnt know of BBPT so i can see your point. Service history aint really going to make "that much" difference anyway - you can tell if a car been looked after just by inspection / driving it. A book of stamps dont mean sh*t.

Youll never make back on the car the amount that Renault will charge you just for having a few Renault stamps in the book. Find a local Renault specialist who will do the work for half the price. When I buy vehicles, I only care that the work has been done, not that the dealers did the work.

id also prefer a car mainted by hill power / BB / K-Tec than any Renault dealer....

yea BB/KTec/HillPower mean something to us guys, but to a perspective car buyer they wouldnt know who the hell they are!

All they would be interested in is reno, reno, reno.

I know reno are a crock, but i think thats just the way things are, especially for a willy!
