Cambelt

  2007 MK5 VW Golf TDi
My Mk2 172 is heading for 57k and I was thinking about getting the cambelt done at 60k...

1. Should I get it done at 60k or wait until the recommended 72k

2. Where in the NW is the cheapest place to get this done? (I have been quoted £620 by Lookers Renault Chester!!!)

  SLK 350
72k is far from recommended. Personally i'd have it done at 60k with your service.

You can get it done for about £350 if you shop around.

if you're worried about it, get it changed.. & be prepared to travel to get it changed from a trusted/compitent(sp?) person

72k is when you should have it done according to Renault if your on your own warently ie if it blows up you have to pay then I'd get it done at 60k.

I'd recomend dropping 16V_jon a message see if he wants to businnes he's one of the few people I'd trust ot go to a Renault dealeship and get chatting to a Renault techie who will know how to do it privatly for much less.

Thanks admits edited now.

Get it changed before 72k. I got mine changed after only 44k miles! It'd been 5 years though. Cost me £275.

theres a (backstreet) garage in Radcliffe that does it pretty cheap. He's a sound mechanic I've taken all my cars there. he just quoted me £120 but thats a dynamique. I have a contact number if you wanna give him a ring.

No we are in atherton near wigan, i dont work there but spend a lot of time there, we have a Renault trained mechanic and all tools and diagnostic equipment required for fixing renaults

If i was to do the cam belt myself i would charge £300, its £89 for the cambelt kit £9 for the aux belt and £12 for the aux tensioner, i would charge £250 for a cup as its easier, at the moment i dont have time due to various projects

Yeah 1.4's are cheaper more room , quicker to do , 172's are an arse no one likes doing them thats why some people end up with a crap job, a comitted mechanic with a good rep will do a good job and not moan
