Camera for the Misses

Looking at the 2 below - anyone own or used either?

I've played with the Ixus, lovely little camera.

I would look to the Cybershot range as well, take a look at this also I would avoid going over 7.2mp as the 8mp hasn't quite been perfected yet on p&s cameras, results in some extra noise and a little blurr especially with zoom.

850 does seem a good bet - x3.8 wide angle lens is good, is it very compact?

^^ cheers - went to currys today just to have a look but no joy - had the ixus 70 which was tiny! but not wide angle zoom or IS.
