Cams

  RenaultSport clio v6 255

was considering changing the cams on my williams, what ar ethe best ones, is it a DIY job, or best to get the experts in? also do you need verneer pulleys? and how do you sort the timing?

can can get reprofiled ones, but the wilder the reprofile gets, the smaller the bottom radius becomes and its not nice for valve train assemblies.

You can run them on teh std pulleys and run std timing, but you wont get the best out of them then. Verniers jsut allow you to set the std timing then advance and r****d each till you get the best power graph you can.

I still dont see why it is so hard for cam companies to put the dam location lug in the right place......

  Was a Clio 1.8 16v

The willy already has sporty cams so ive heard so would imagine the BHP gain wouldnt be as big as with a 16v, if u havent already got it id imagine a chip, decent IK & Xorst would be just as big a gain.

planning to get some cams, and then chip later to suit the cams, run with and exhaust etc, who is best for the cams, BB are doing an offer on their mild cams, any good? they recon 10 - 15 bhp increase on teh williams?

What about piper and kent?

Could i do it my self??

Sporty cams already? Like the myth that the willy heads are ported from the factory.

I had the 16V and willy cam specs (dunno where they went), the diff between the 2 was about 0.5mm lift, hose me down thats an extra billion bhp.

Wrap some tape round the lobes, that will increase the lift on the cheap. BenR will be the only one who will appreciate the sarcasm in that comment.

Anyway Kent Piper etc do cams, get them get them checked, if they are not timed correctly send them back and demand another one, keep doing it. Then when you get one thats close keep it and demand compensation. Dont take sh*te from these places they will f**k you about or try to because they think they can. If they get lippy threaten them with court action for seling dodgy goods.

Also never act like your skint with these places, if they think you have cash and plenty of it then they will take any court threats seriously.

yup, gettting performance oput of a cam can be a lottery.

Spesh with regrinds, the likes of piper and Kent are not up to the standards of US cam grimnding companies that really do work and are identicle to eachother.

You can get, like a carb, a good one and a bad one. Sometimes they jsut work, sometimes you can fiddle with the timing and injection for days on end to get no significant BHP increase, and deffo nowhere near teh claimed output.

Get it done all in one day, but the cam with an email stating the power increase. Go to a RR, get a std power run then get them to fit the cam on teh original timing marks, another power run, then adj the pulleys (if your gettimg them) to see if you can finda a few bhp more. If it dont add up to the 15-22bhp gain they say, and it wont. Go back demanding your money back.

There is no reason they should get away with statinga gain and not delivering. In most cases they will come back saying that you need such and such a spec to get the gain, in which case you show them the email where they didnt say that.

Should Maccy Ds be allowed to deliver an underweight quaterpounder?

Most racers live with it, and generally develop the cam for the company. But making a new master grind is extreemly expensive.

man! And i though this would be easy!!! clearly no such thing as an easy power gain! still think i will get soem though as the cam followers getting pretty tappy , so if i change thses with a kit should quieten it all down, may even give it more gas!
