yup, gettting performance oput of a cam can be a lottery.
Spesh with regrinds, the likes of piper and Kent are not up to the standards of US cam grimnding companies that really do work and are identicle to eachother.
You can get, like a carb, a good one and a bad one. Sometimes they jsut work, sometimes you can fiddle with the timing and injection for days on end to get no significant BHP increase, and deffo nowhere near teh claimed output.
Get it done all in one day, but the cam with an email stating the power increase. Go to a RR, get a std power run then get them to fit the cam on teh original timing marks, another power run, then adj the pulleys (if your gettimg them) to see if you can finda a few bhp more. If it dont add up to the 15-22bhp gain they say, and it wont. Go back demanding your money back.
There is no reason they should get away with statinga gain and not delivering. In most cases they will come back saying that you need such and such a spec to get the gain, in which case you show them the email where they didnt say that.
Should Maccy Ds be allowed to deliver an underweight quaterpounder?
Most racers live with it, and generally develop the cam for the company. But making a new master grind is extreemly expensive.
