Can a 182 keep up with a Meg 225

The black 225 up front couldnt have been trying this morning, joining the M66. Apart from the initial turbo uptake, we kept the same distance apart...

I thought a 225 would have trounced a 182???

D.

Hardly trounce mate,

182 0-60: 6.45 0-100: 16.94

Megane 225 0-60: 6.53 0-100: 16.41

But this is just off of one site, different mags get so many different times, seen the megane at 6secs dead in one mag. In the real world there wont be much in it, although over 100 id expect the megane to pull away

On the M66 you would only have gone up to 70 mph. I would let the Megane past then giggle at its ugly backside.

Of course I did - I have my own 70mph speed limiter fitted! ;)

How much heavier are the Meggys over the 182s? That alone must even out the performance abilities of each car?

I really enjoyed driving the 225 Trophy around Brands, but it certainly wasnt any quicker than the 182. Its just got the most silky smooth power delivery. You can just sit with it, but passing would require you to break track day rules, as on the straight theres nothing in it.

  not a clio anymore

A Meg225 is faster than my 172 in a straight, I have tried and it did pull away (that was on a track and we were both nailing it). I could see him gaining ground (not a huge amount, but gaining).

What is the official 0-60 time for the 182, and top end?. Ive looked on the renault website, EVO mag, autoxpress mag, topgear mag and various other websites and every one lists a different time.

So its not 0-60 7.1 and tops out at 139mph

top end is about right but u see them anywhere between 6.4 to 7.3 to 60mph.i think they will be around 6.7 TBH and 172s around 6.9

Cool, after reading the different times in the mag i thought there were hundreds of different versions of the car. ha.

Still test drive in 2 hours. Cant bloody wait. haha

i chased jeremy round brands with him on his own in a trophy and me with a passenger in a 182 (making it the equivalent of three people in my car) and he was going nowhere!

Owned!

The recent Autocar 0-100-0 would suggest the megane would show a clean pair of heels to a 182.

0-60 - 6s flat

0-100 - 15.?

I matched a 225 through 1st gear at pod....then he left me...but only ran a 14.7 quartermile....must have been a sh*t driver

Still a pretty good time for a standard car, when you think that CTRs, FRS and LCRs struggle to break 15s!

With the turbo and extra tourque the meg should show its colours on a straight, but on a good stretch of a/b roads i would imagine there wouldnt be much in it.The meg would be quicker overall though on a few D/Cs and roundabouts

Dont forget the megane is carrying a lot of extra lard. Its quite a bit quicker than a 172 (like 1/2 a second over the 1/4 mile) up to 60 theres probably not much in it but I think they do the 100 dash a good second quicker. Dont believe the hype about handling either they have got lots more grip and the brakes are pretty fearsome. Round the twistes one woudldnt get away from the other I would say.

Thru 1st gear? you hero... Youve got an 8v engine and probably weigh less than his windscreen alone.

I think at pod you were getting really good 60ft times, about the same as me, and a lot of other 16v engined cars, and Im not a sh*t driver!

14.7 is actually quite a good 1/4 mile time I ran a 15.00 at FCS but Im sh*t at 1/4 miling I thought a 14.8 would be possible especially if the stupid ASR would switch off above 35mph which the standard meg doesnt. Soon to be sorted on mine by writing all the trophy ECU data onto mine

The 182 is the faster car on the track. The extra torque of the Megan helps but on the ring 2 up vs a Megan with no back seats and 1 driver the 182 was qicker only slighly though.
At Oulton park the Megan was slightly slower

Meggy225 upto around motorway speeds wont be any quicker...

.... then the torque just keeps on pulling it upto 155MPH (which I have achieved).

Ive never been able to get my 182 past 130MPH!!!

The 225 pulls quicker to start off with, because most of its torque is available from 2000 rpm, wheras being in the optimum gear is more essential in the 182.... (so this is only relavent for a rolling start, like overtaking for example).

And before the speeding brigade starts moaning, it was all totally legal: Germany of all places..... (but I would have been jailed if it were the UK).

Round brands.... I cant remember how many times I overtook the Meggy, but it was quite a few: Its a heavier car.... and handles accordingly.

The 225 engine is a beauty.

I was following one on the M4 just past Cardiff a few weeks back and we were both cruising at about *cough* 70mph, all of a sudden he floored it, although I never bothered to try and keep up I honestly dont think I could have stuck with him, it just kept pulling and pulling.

surely the esp shouldnt make any difference for quarter miling though as by the time you hit 35 mph and it cuts back in you are already moving and shouldnt be losing grip so it wont cut it, on a track it would but not is a straight line?
