can anybody help me with my new 172 looking for some info

jus wondering if any1 knows where bouts the engine codes are as im new to a clio sport, as just got it and i think it could of had a engine change, its iceburg silver lowered on 40's and its got 17'' fox multispokes can any 1 help me?????

i put the wheels on the description coz i wondered if anybody knew of it, just think its had an engine change because of certain things
 
well let people know what certain things and they may be able to help. you might want to start with the reg number?

yes its bd51 xvb the engine has got chalk marks all over it as tho its come from a scrappy just that im having probs with the dephaser and ive only had it a week and the garage i bought it off is bein a arse bout sed i had warrenty but not stickin to his word and told me to get f##k'd got it from peterborough

that reg isn't coming up on the renault system so its more than likely an import (will have no alarm or an after market unit)

get me the chassis number and i can tell you more, it starts VF1C

just to the right of the dipstick is the engine number (i think, i haven't really ever looked for it!)

ahhh this is my old one i had in a few year back, i wrote it off in a front ender.

u put it back on the road then?

what kind of warranty did he say you have?? if its a third party warranty you'll struggle to get any money out of them if its had major work done like an engine change.
didn't you notice the chalk marks when you bought it or get it checked over by a mechanic? if he said you had a warranty surely you must have got him to give you something in writing rather than taking his word for it?

as s**t as it, you don't have much comeback when buying used cars as they are normally sold as seen so you might have to accept it & pay up yourself. Failing that, I'd keep phoning & driving down to see him, threaten him with trading standards and if you are lucky he'll fix it to save the agro

YEA GOT TRADING STANDARDS INVOLVED BUT ITS JUST SH=T COZ GOTTA WAIT 14 DAYS FOR THE GUY TO WRITE BACK TO ME

when you say there's marks on the engine, it could be factory stuff. They use a couple of different coulours of paint pen to mark things to show it's been through QC, what shift etc

Coloured marks on bolts etc is pretty standard on all modern cars as assembly machines check for the marks on the bolts so that they recognise that its been assembled correctly. As danny says its just a way of QC

My Reg isn't on the Renault system but its got factory alarm, security marked windows and locking wheel nuts. It really pisses me off as nobody reconises the reg!
