can anyone help noise at 4000revs

ive got a 51 plate 172 and ive got a noise at 4k revs (dead on) under load and i thought my cambelt cos its due so i have that done yesterday and all the tensioners and its still happening. the only way i can describe it is by it sounds like pinking.? any ideas thanks.:S

it sounds more at the front of the car its got a prospeed middle and rear the stealth looking one

I had the same thing a few years back at same revs 4000rpm It did sound like it was behind dash or engine bay, reno had it in 3 times trying to sort it turned out it was exhaust baffles collapsing inside it. was a common problem on std exhausts they changed mine under warranty eventully ! !

ref the exhaust pipe just been for a drive and think it might be the heat shield which covers the steering rack protecting from the manifold cheers guys car going on the ramp when i get to work in the morning to investigate thanks again.

It'll be the heat shield over the manifold mate. Had same at exactly 4k.
