Can dealers check records of previous services?

Hi All,

I've had the 182 for nearly a month now, I've had the Cambelt changed already, when I questioned whether the Aux belt needed changing, the reply was that they would do it if it was needed . . . obviously they thought it didn't need changing!

Now, the car is on 44k - I do have all of the receipts for any work that has been done but for some reason a couple are missing . . .

I really need to find out if this was done, if it had been done it would have been at Lookers Chelmsford . . . is there anyway they can check back through the service records of my car to find out if it's been done?

Simon.

Ok, so If I go to Lookers Renault in Chelmsford, they should be able to check the records by registration?

Ring the dealers that did the service, they should be able to tell you. Might try to charge you, mind.

Ring Lookers, any main dealer timing belt change includes the aux belt so it should have been done.

Cheers Alex.

I rung them up, they could only find a record of one service, even though there are 3 stamps in the book!

They said the aux belt hadn't been done, so I've booked it in at a place near me called Frenchcarnection. They've quoted me around £70 max for it to be done, Renault were asking £320!

I'm going to just get it done, for my peace of mind!

£70 sounds a bit cheap to me, where are these guys from? It's a bit of a pain to do the aux belts.

and to be honest, Chelmsford Lookeers have never been overly helpful. Tried telling me 182's came with 17" tyres as standard. lol

Based in Rayleigh, I've used them before and have been reccomended by a few people off of here.

They said it shouldn't take long, and would be done whilst I wait. I'm not sure if they've given me a bit of a discount because they didn't change it when they done the cam belt?

He said it should only take 30 minutes . . .?

Hmm I use them for all normal stuff, Brakes, Suspension etc and there spot on.

I steer away from the engine side - Not because there crap but because there prices seem to be a bit up the wall.

I asked about cambelt and Aux Kit and they quoted £230 for the job. Seems far to cheap to be correct I'm not sure if they think 172 are the same as a 1.2.

Maybe wrong and they may be that cheap but I'm on my way to portsmouth for rentech to do the engine side.

French Car-Nection everything else :)

If its just the aux belt then £70 is cheap but do able, this will not include the aux belt tensioner though, as that is £100 on its own, and if it needs changing you really do need it done, so just check the condition with them

They are good there, Brilliant service - Like I say the prices just don't make much sense so if you phone up for a quote just ask them to confirm its the 2.0 16v and not the 1.2 16v.

Just moved recently to a brand new workshop as well. If your coming from Chelmsford A130 then A127 take the Rayleigh weir turn off and your about 2 minutes from them.

Highly recommended for normal servicing. Cambelt and Aux belt I'm having done at Rentech.

They do seem to be good, and honest too - the final cost of the cambelt change come to less than they originally quoted for!

I'll keep a lookout for the tensioners, I guess they would tell me if they needed doing!

I'm not too sure about servicing and prices though, however I will certainly enquire about it!
