Can I remove this bar?

Afternoon all,
I would like to remove the bar that goes across the car behind the dash board and also bolts to the centre of the floor pan behind the gear stick. I can't see and purpose for it other than to hold up the dash, which I have now removed. Does it do something else that I am unaware of?

As you can see, it holds a lot of stuff together, but no real other purpose.

What are doing about a dash?

Just a quick update for future readers, the bar is a pain in the arse to remove from the steering column but it serves no purpose once the dash is out

Are you doing anything to tidy that lot up? For the sake of the weight of the dashboard itself would it not have been just as easy to remove what you can behind the dash then at least put the top part back in!

You are properly hardcore. what are you going to do about all the cables bouncing around when you go over a speed bump etc. Guess you are going to get rid of the stereo. Whats going to hold the dash clocks on top of the steering wheel. Hope you dont regret taking the dash out.

I don't regret taking it out, it is going to be a hardcore car by the time i am done and every kg I can shed will be gone, including the radio. So I will tie up all the cables properly when I have finished messing about with it, but is always going to be just cable ties holding it all up, unless I can be bothered to put all the cables in copex like I have in the rear of the car, see picture below.

Never seen a harness mounted like that at the back.

Are you putting a cage in this?
