Can i use my car insurance to drive my dads car?

sav

Car  Renault Clio 1.2 mk2 ph1
i got fully comp insurance on my car, does my insurance cover me to drive my dads car?

thx

Some policies used to allow you to drive any other car third party fire & theft, as long as that car was covered fully comp by somebody else.

Think they've started to quietly take it off policies now though...

Although it's generally taken as the norm that fully comp insurance offers you third party on other vehicles with the owner's permission, as the others said they've started quietly excluding it from policies now (in my experience generally for the under-25s).

It'll be explicitly stated on your insurance documents if you can, and in some cases it may explicitly state that you can't, but it might not say anything at all. If in doubt after looking at the documents phone them and ask.

If you're not insured some insurers will add a named driver for 1 day, or 3 days, or whatever... so that may be an option if he speaks to his insurers.

im fully comp but not insured to drive any other cars. some companies dont do it which therfore makes your insurance premuim that little bit cheaper

ok thx for the replys ill check my docs and if need be ill ring my insurance people

Easy answer, all polices are different and from the very limited information of yours, [none] ring them and ask.

i heard that you have to be 21 now to use other people cars :S on fully comp ...

Thats true with Tesco and direct line who ive been insured with ive heard Quinn Direct let you drive any car under there fully comp at third party no age restrictions

Quinn Direct do let you drive any other car,no age restrictions up to 2 litre car IIRC. A bit mad really coz i can drive my mums Vectra at no add cost :S Only 3rd party mind. Id phoned them up to check first though, they might be different where you live or something.

Almost all say you have to be over 25 if they do allow it.

I was told by someone who works for an insurance company that with all new policies you have to be over 25 for any insurance. Not sure if its true.
