can you take off steering wheel cover

Anyone know if it is possible to take the steering wheel centre cover off without setting off the airbag? i have a 2002 clio 1.2.

yes it is, but its dangerous to touch it

ive got bucket seats in now so the side airbags are gone and the service light is on, does this mean that the drivers aibag is dissabled?
