^ Certainly can. For example, my Mk1 1.4RT the brakes are spongy as everyone knows and not the best, but they are Lucas Calipers which are better than Bendix.

Anywho, you can grab yourself Mk1 16v calipers for the front (with carriers and bolts) for like £30 - £40 second hand quite easily and then fit standard Mk1 16v discs which are like 258-9mm in diameter and vented and then of course the pads. :)

All can be done yourself and should really help the braking. I'm still in the middle of doing mine, got one more caliper to finish spraying. If you want a good place to buy the std. discs and pads then look here,

https://secure.gsfcarparts.com/shop/

Discs are like £25 and pads £15 roughly. But a 16v setup is best bet, don't just upgrade the discs on std. Mk1 calipers.

I swear Lucas are the s**t ones as thats what my current RT and old 1.2 RN have on them.
They are the really common ones thats for sure as I went down the breakers yard in search of a 52mm hub and all 5 of the clios had Lucas calipers.

I think the good ones are something like girling or something like that, but I could be wrong - I'm totally relying on memory, which often lets me down.

No need to change the master cylinder standard one will be fine. The Bendix calipers are the poor ones as they have solid discs not vented. The lucas girling calipers are better and have vented discs. I uprated my old 1.4rt to the 16V calipers and discs by simply buying the carriers and the bolts. Easy job and much better brakes.

Hi mate,

No no, Lucas\Girling are the better ones. I'm sure Lucas is Girling or if not, they are nearly similar. Bendix are the sh*t ones. ;) The calipers on 1.8 16v although bigger are Lucas as well. So that says it all. :)

Where did you get them from? Scrappies tend to want to sell the calipers too! I only need one carrier and the 4 bolts.
