was at brands today and thought i had soemthing on the mirror so when i took the lens off i blew to try and clear it but a little bit of spit fell on the mirror, i presume its the mirror, the reflecting sort of square thing you see when you take the lens off it to change them?

what do i do to clean it, can i clean it with lens cleaner or is it more delicate than that?

I took a couple of pics and can't see it on the pics and also can't see it theough the view finder so am struggling to know how it affects anything? When I say a small bit its pretty large actually, the area, its about 1.5 cm long fro, the centre out to the edge. Can't believe i did it but i did so need to know what i shoudl do please so any help would be handy.

thanks

think i may have answered my own question it seem the thing you see when you change the lens is the focussing screen, how the hell do i clean spit off that!

Quote take from another forum:

More than likely it's on the focussing screen. Since the mirror swings evertime you hit the shutter, dust doesn't really have a chance to settle on the mirror. Use a blower per the owner's manual to blow out the dust.

lol, no that was the lens, must stop spitting on my bloody equipment!!!!!

I now think its the mirror and now the lens, its very weird as i can't see it thorugh the viewfinder, the pictures are fine and my focus seems fine too, anyon eknow whether the shiny thing we can see when looking into the camera is the focusing screen or the mirror please as this is driving me crazy!

thanks

ok changed my mind again, it is the mirrow and as i can't see it through the viewfinder ans it doesn't seem to have a problem focusing i am going to leave for now.

Tsk, if you keep gobbing on your gear mate get one of these

i can recommend it, and its better than wiping goz off of lenses :)
lol, got a rocket blower but i'm pretty sure it isn't going to get rid of dried spit on the mirror, use it to clean my sensor though.

I think i am going to leave this for now although a few forums say you can clean the mirror with lens cleaner but need to be careful as it is delicate, as its not stopping me from taking photos at the mo i will leave it.

The shiny thing is the mirror. The AF sensor is a seperate componant. If the dirt is on the mirror it won't show on your photos but if you clean it you run the risk of the dirt appearing somewhere else... I'd leave it or get it cleaned by a proper camera repair shop (Fixation etc...)

Is it not worth going to a camera shop like Jessops or whatever and seeing what they say or get them to clean it?

I wouldn't ask Jessops to change a compact flash card never mind clean a sensor, i've found them utterly useless, find a decent camera shop if it needs cleaning.
