Canon Powershot promotion

  ?
Im interested in buying the canon a640

can someone please check this out for me? there offering 60 quid cashback apparently... ive found it for 200, so that makes it 140?! the price seems unreal!

http://www.canon.co.uk/powershotpromotion/

I didnt really understand all of this? eg participating retailers, etc... but if someone could please explain that would be appreciated :D

  ?
Just to get into photography really, cant afford an slr but this has high spec and a lot of manual features.

... does the offer seem ok? i dont understand exactly what ive got to do lol.

  Civic Type R EK9
ok mate well it will be an awesome camera for still photography ie. sight seeing, parked cars, scenery etc... but as for motorsport photgraphy i wouldnt recommend it as you need a slr with a higher shutter speed!! a nikon d50 is good

  ?
It says on how to claim...

2.3. In order to claim the cashback, the participant must;
2.3.1. fully and correctly complete either;
(a). the cut-out voucher from the Canon advert in the national press; or
(b).an in-store leaflet; or
(c) a claim form which can be downloaded from www.canon.co.uk/powershotpromotion or
www.canon.ie/powershotpromotion.
2.3.2. and send the completed claim form, along with the original receipt or valid proof of purchase to the following address; Canon PowerShot Promotion, Freepost RLZT-ZCGT-SRUU, PWA, PO Box 659, Chesham, Herts.

So i could buy the camera from somewhere else (seen it for 200 in the shops) and send off the reciept? how am i meant to know the participating retailers?! lol....

  you may know it, clio?
i work part time for Jessops

canon do pay their cash back in a cheque form

but go for the canon 710is, much better camera.

its on sale at Jessops £200 i think and in my opion im dont care if jessops do well or bad

but get the RRP (insurance) its like £35 and it covers you for 3 years accidental. when you want a new camera you could... drop it in water which would result in you getting £200 in vouchers to spend on what you please in Jessop.

Perfect! someone who works at jessops.. this is exactly what I was hoping for. You sure the A710is is a better camera? the a640 is 10 megapixels, a lot of manual features (a sexy swivel screen!) and sometimes the picture quality has been compared to the new G series model.

I take it jessops are a participating retailer then, so all i would have to do is purchase a camera within that time period (from jessops) and send off a copy of the reciept to canon, along with the downloadable form..and then ill get a cheque? I will get the accidental cover i think..

  you may know it, clio?
lol ok well basically its not about megapixels.

its about the lense of the camera (canon and sony are good) but unless your going to enlarge the picture more than 7x5 you dont need more than 6.

it has an image stabaliser in it i think and 6x optical zoom.

but yeh you must buy it from jessops and they can print you off 2 reciepts and you send one to canon i think... but yes def the 710 is better.

get the RRP though! for 35 you have a 3 insurance cover and you can claim a new camera in 2 years time or so...

  you may know it, clio?
the canon g7 is amazing but its about £400.

i do work for the watford branch aswell! lol

  you may know it, clio?
ok well i didnt realise but jessops online price for the 640 is £219.99 so order online and collect in store.

then get the rrp it will be £40 or so.

SD cards are ok in jessops cheaper online but make sure you get sandisk or a reconised name...

  ?
ah thats amazing, so if i order online but collect in store... i still get the online price?! wow...

How would i then go about getting a reciept etc do i print something off or do i get one when i go to the store? also do i pay online or in store?

Ill buy an SD card later, its not a problem

EDIT - its for my birthday so id have to drag the rents down... probly be the weekend anyway!

A640 Review: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canona640/ (£220 in Jessops, £196 in Dixons)

A710 Review: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canona710is/ (£200 in Jessops)

The A710is will have to come from Jessops, but the A640 can be purchased just about anywhere (London Camera Exchange etc)

With Jessops Collect In-Store you need a credit/debit card when reserving online but it isn't charged at that point, when you go to the store you pay with the card and get a receipt just as you would normally.

Oh and buy your SD Card online from somewhere else, Sandisk 2Gb Ultra II is £40 in Jessops, but £15 on Play.

Wow... thanks so much! i think ill be buying it from dixons then! I can still get my cashback offer through there... right? I dont want to send it off then them saying "you didnt buy from a participating retailer" etc. Ive been reading a few reviews etc, the 640 really appeals to me, and im not too bothered about the extra zoom.

Yeh i know where the hemel store is, ill probly just go there tis closer :p also stalbans etc. but if i can find it cheaper elsewhere then i will

  you may know it, clio?
yeh but dixons know nothing about cameras so go in knowing what to buy but the dixons isurance is s**t apparently.

find out im not tooo sure, just giving you the advice i know really.

  you may know it, clio?
up to you really.

obv im only a part timer so i dont mind if you buy from jessops or not

but i just know from experience jessops is easy and cheap for RRP and i know for a fact if you accidently drop it in water you will get vouchers of the eqivialnt.

so in two years time £200 is going to buy a sick camera etc.

well im off now mate

PM me if you need anymore advice
