Captive Nuts...

Car  RB 182
On my previous 172 i bent the subframe, so obv had to get the old one off but each and every captive nut just spun. In the end i had to cut a hole to get a spanner in, trust me i tried every way!!

No my current 172 needs a clutch, but with 90k on it these captive nuts arent gonna do their job are they?! So, anyone got any tips to prepare for the job, im not planning on doing it for a few month and have soaked them all in WD once already. Anyone else have this problem?

never had it on a clio...

you should be fine to be hnest mate the fact that you bent the subframe probably broke the retainers on the captive nuts.

i've had it on a freelander rear subframe..

had to do as you did cut holes in chassis/re welded/ plated the hole

they're kind of semi-captives. I've spun a few, normally the front ones, just had to break the retainer clip then treat it as a normal nut and bolt. Swan neck spanner gets in there once the clip's gone

I had the same problem with a bent subframe so i had to cut through the bolt. and then they worked fine when i was undoing them on a subframe that wasnt bent
