Car Audio Recommendations?

  1.2 16v Clio
Ok so ive had my clio about a year now, when i got it i bought some normal kenwood 13cm door speakers and some infinity 6x9 speakers. Been looking around past month because im not really happy with it as i would like better quality at high volume and some good bass.

So when reading it seems the 6x9's are all about volume and not really quality but if i get rid of them im not going to be happy with just the front door speakers. People told me to just sell the lot and buy some front components and just put a sub/amp in the back that way ill get good quality and volume with decent base, apparently?

So what exactly are components? and will they cost more to get fitted or even be more complicated? I fit the other speakers myself so just wondering if i could do these myself aswell.

Been looking at the JBL stuff and as my current door speakers are the standard 13cm size ive been looking at this size. If im just having front components and a sub/amp in the back then will the standard size still be decent or should i look for some bigger front components?

Anyways, the JBL stuff any good? i heard it was good value for money and as im not looking to pay an arm and a leg this is what im after. I dont wanna be heard a mile away from where im driving but it would be nice to be loud, quality and a good thumping bass that people could hear.

Thanks for any recommendations and advice :)

I would ask a guy on here called Matt at mtaudio, if anyone knows the best stuff to put in a clio it will be him, he just sorted me and my brother out with stalk controls for our clio's.

if you stay with big brand like vibe (not fli), JL, alpine... you will not go wrong. Component speaker are usually a set of 2 speaker per side (one called the tweeter for treble and one woofer for the medium / mid bass) link with a crossover (box that split the sound signal). They are much better than coxial (full range of sound coming from 1 speaker) because they give you the sound were it needs to be : against the windscreen for the high frenquency and lower level for the low freq.

regarding the amps have i look at the RMS power not the peak one. also look at the frequency response : the high it is the better is your amp but the more expensive it becomes.

The best thing to do is to get yourself a budget and see a shop (not halford though) that can recommend stuff for you and installed them if you are not sure about it.

Up here in the northeast I always go to Autosound on Scotchwood road, they are great...

do NOT go with vibe. they'll just break. you'll pay over the top. and the quality is not good (i'll get slated for that, just watch lol). Sony (avoid subs and amps. Headunits etc are okay.)

First off. Have you got a standard head unit? this will make a huge difference. An after market head unit will make allll thei difference in sound quality.

Secondly. Components are good. but unless you are willing to take your dash to peices and spend alot of money. i would not reccomend. plus, you'll get near, if not as good sound quality from a decent pair of coaxials.

As for JBL. Cant fault them. I have all JBL speakers. front and rear doors and 6x9's. and this is louder than my mates car. he has vibe compnents up front. vibe rear coaxials and 4 vibe 6x9's. he also has 4 equalisers and this was all professionally setup for him in a car audio shop. i did mine on my drive on a tight budget and it owns his system.

As for subs. a price is really needed. 10inchs are good for a nice tight punch that you can feel in your chest, but you wont get that 'hair standing on end' feeling with the low bass.
12inch subs are good all rounders. some, such as JL audio subs, are very good with the punch and high bass. but lows arent good, so again, not too much hair on end bass. Infinity subs are very good with the punch and low bass. I have a Infinity sub and that makes my girlfriends high blow about when in the car and has made someones ear start to bleed woops. lol

15inch is just for all out volume and doesnt give that same quality effect so probably not what your looking for.

as for amps. go for maybe a 4 channel. 2 channel are good for a sub r amping 6x9's for instance. or even a monoblock just for the sub but with the setup you are describing i would reccomend a 4 channel amp.

I'll post some links here with good equiptment. you can find things like this cheaper on ebay and infact the best speakers i ever bought were some brand new 150watt door speakers by JBL for £20 off ebay. came with grills and free delivery so the bargins are out there!!!

Nah, head unit isnt standard mate :)

No problem at all mate, its all usefull information :)

ive been looking around and thinking of getting these to start with, i think it will be ok to build on a little if needed in the future like a couple of rears or so or get a bigger amp for in the future but i can use the amp on there to power the sub and front components and then switch whenever i get a bigger one but for now i recon ill use these. Been recommended to me and meant to be a decent beginners setup.
