To remove the swirls fully you should invest in a machine polisher such as a kestrel das-6, porter cable 7424 etc with appropriate pads/polishes (research on detailing world).

Alternatively you could pay one of the very capable guys on here to sort your paint out, then leave it with yourself to maintain.

:lolup: what he said.......

OR

Get rid of the sponge, use a microfibre wash mitten / cloth. Use a real leather to dry it off making sure you keep rincing it. You may want to use detailing spray now with a clay bar to go over the car, then time to gloss n swirl remove, If and if you cant afford a machine polisher then again use a microfibre cloth with some good gloss / pait restorer, Couple of coats then seal with a good sealent. Go to detailing world for info on good products, people have diffenernt preferences...they arnt cheap!

I say you cant go wrong with poorboys gloss and a tub of Finish Kare #1000P Hi Temp Sealant just my preference

black car = swirl fail

especially if its second hand ...and like mine , appears to have been washed with a scouring pad!

LOL! A n00b taking the mickey and then suggesting using a leather!!!!

Ignore this. No offence, but judging by the statement, you shouldn't be advising on car detailing and swirl removal.

There is a sub-forum on car detailing. If you want to get the paint back to as new condition, then you will need paint correction. A full detail will set you back a lot of money, but it depends on your budget.

What part of that was actually taking the mickey? Thats just how ive done it previously and have had some good results. What do you use to dry your car with then? Educate me seeing as you seem to know it all? Im not closed minded always open to learning

Unless I've misunderstood the laughing icon, followed by the statement of suggesting something else?

Try a plush microfibre drying towel, after spritz of QD (quick detailer) to prevent scratching.

Drying is the major cause of most swirl marks. A leather will have your pearl black looking like a spider's nest in weeks, not months or years.

edit; nice edit.

I haven't suggested I do know it all. What I have suggested is that you appear to be laughing (unless that icon appears in a different form on your screen?) at the previous poster's spot on suggestions, then go ahead and make suggestions of your own that will actually do more harm than good. Read the detailing section, then come back with your opinions on who to trust.

n00b.

I was going for more of the pointing action the emoticon was making rather than the laughing action. Apologies to original poster if it came accross that way.

I'll admit, i too use to use a leather!! I also found, they tended to leave like a white smeary, scummy finish to the paint too..., may of just been an old crappy leather, but hey it's now in the bin lol!

Now use a Meg's waffle-weave towel, leaves the car bone dry and no water marks at all, instead of the above!

OK, mis-understanding as tends to happen with written text.

Would suggest, to bring the thread back on course, that you change the leather to a towel such as the one linked below, will help you prevent against swirling;

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/I4D_Uber_Premium_Drying_Towel_1.html

I use one of these and they are fantastic, switched from my poorboy waffle weave and the difference is amazing, Here's my latest results on the daily driver.

To wash (IMO);

Megs wash mitt
Megs Gold Class Shampoo
Different wheel brushes + old mitt for wheel faces
Two buckets (two bucket method)

This doesn't include pre-foaming and karcher pressure washing etc.

  Clio 172
This is how i wash all my cars;

HP Rinse with Pressure washer
Foam car with HD Lance and 50/50 mix of Meg'S Hyperwash or Snow Foam and water
HP Rinse again
Wash down body with Lambswool Mitt using 2 bucket method again using Meg's Hyperwash shampoo
HP Rinse again
Dry car using Ultra Plush Micrfibre Drying Towel.

Top Up Wax if required

Wheels I use Meg's Wheel Brightner agitated with a back wheel brush for backs and Lambswool mitt for fronts.

Hope that helps.

50/50 mix of snow foam and water is a massive amount. If you have a half litre bottle, you need to use about an Inch of product, topped up with water. Any more is just going to be costing you s**t loads fella!
