Car Cover Mockup.

heh, So, Bad weather means my car will be absolutly filthy for French Car Show..

I have two options:

Clean it with just soap and leave it dirtyish, or Polish, Wax it the full thing and get some sort of car cover. The one I want is £50 and is fully breathable etc.. but quite expensive.. I only need it for a couple of nights ideally.

Would old bed sheets be ok? Are they "breathable" - I dont want them to trap damp in, and then the damp start to work on my paintwork whilst Im sleeping!

I need something which will keep the dirt, rain and general crap off them for a few days.. whilst I get it all looking nice. If it starts raining mid polishing, at least I can cover it up and come back to it when it stops again!

Be careful with car covers. Ive used one for the past two years since Ive got a compound but no garage in Bristol, and dont use my car for weeks at a time.

I bought a plain one from Halfords (navy blue polyester type thing) and it was just shocking. No good for outside and I cant see it being any good in a garage either. So I took that back and got one of the "Topcover" silver thingys for about £50. It soon loses its shine and gets very creased, but it works well.

Im afraid that it isnt properly waterproof, and you may find if you leave it for a week that the wax gets worn off a bit by chaffing (especially wing mirrors). But it will keep your bodywork in much better condition than if you leave it outside without. The best thing is that because the car doesnt get covered in dust and so on, you can just chammy off the water marks and wax it straight away, without scratching the paintwork. Its ideal in the summer. When you use it, Id recommend you put it one with care as it can sometimes pick up little stones and so on off the floor and could scratch the car because there will be points where it hugs the body tightly.

Dont even think of using blankets as a substitute! - they will get wet and attract all sorts of dust and so on that could scratch the body when you take them on and off when its wet outside.

if u get a car cover make sure it has 100% sheeps wool on the inside as that helps minimise scratches.

but if u do a propper clean and wax it a few times then get your self a little spray bottle from a garden centre and put filtered water in it, then on the day of the show aslong as its not covered in mud, u can mist the bodywork lightly with water then use a terry towel to dry it and that will buff up the wax too.
