car feels a bit off!!

  clio 172 ph2
as above. had engine change recently and had most bits renewed on engine when it was out i.e plugs leads ect, ect.
when i first picked car up after the engine swap the timing was out half a notch or something like that. so had to take it back to get it sorted.

the car almost sounds like it cant breathe properly and the exhaust note is ever so slightly different, it almost sounds like its got a cold lol! the air filter is clean and the new engine was running good before the swap.
it feels a little slower tooo like its not got the same kick to it that it had!

is it possible that the timing may still not be just perfect??

You've pretty much answered your own question here. Yes, of course its entirely possible and probable that the timing is once more incorrect.

You really should just take it to someone that knows what they're doing and has the correct tooling because we try not to scare monger too much. There's loads of reputable specialists about so bound to be one in short distance to you.

How did your mate find the timing was out?

when i picked the car up after the work was done, it was really rough on idle and ran really cr@p. i took it back to him for him to have another look.
not too sure what happened but he said something like the pully must have turned a little when he was tesioning it or something.
when i got it back after that it was alot better but the more i drive it the more i think its still running rubbish! it defo feels like its holding back on power

Can I ask how you knew your timing was off? I only ask as recently ive had the dephasar and belts done on mine and it feels a bit sluggish down the revs and the vtec kick isnt as hard as i remember only thing is at the same time i had a oreca system fitted with the de cat .. it could very well be Im usto the power now and its actually running smoother... the work was done by a reputable garage near me im sure theyd have done it right.... also how do you check if its out? any tests you can do ? .... would also be nice to know if people think its the de cat? ive read it creates flats but?? could a re map help?

just because a garge is reputable doesnt mean they know how to time up a clio properly, alot of reputable garages mess up timings on clios
