Did the oil change on saturday and after spending about an hour on get the filter off it went ok.

I can't believe how different the car feels now, seems so much more responsive. The car was becoming a little sluggish but now its back so i'm really happy

:)

next up new exhaust

im about to replace the oil and oil filter as well as fuel filter on mine, any chance you can point me in the right direction? Iv got no idea where they are as i havnt changed one before.. And what exhaust you going for? iv got a milltek and its just fantastic, especially if you really warm the car up, absolutely sings!

It feels like new after just changing the oil ? Was that all you did ?
How long had it been in there for ?

There's a PDF guide on how to change the oil and everything in the guides section (need to be a member). Going to do mine at some point :)

I WISH there was a guide on how to do the gear box oil though seeing as I think mine needs doing.

When you buy the oil buy some engine flush too,you should flush the engine through everytime you change the oil

Really don't see the point in all this oil change nonsense, just change it when it's due unless it lives on track days.

How often do engines actually "wear out" never.

Because oil begins to build up a high acid content which then deteriats seals, sensors etc

But over what period of time? Surely thats why pretty much every car is at 2 year services?

The acid builds up overtime and is continuously deteriateing parts so the more more you change the oil the better but once every yr or six months is good enogh with a flush eachtime

Mines done every 12k, so atleast once a year. Wouldn't ever leave it longer than a year.

Mines a diesel and it has a far greater carbon build up so I do it every 6k

Over kill mate - i have always done 10K changes on every car i have owned and i have never had a problem

Yeah 6k-10k aslong as its not 30k haha the mad man my missus has a 2003 1.25 fiesta and even that gets done every 10-12k lol

  fiesta 1.25
I never changed the oil on my 1.2 clio whilst i owned it,i did 32k in that and it was so reliable.

Probably start doing them every 10k in the 172

  Works...kind of...
I change oil and filter every 6 months regardless of mileage (and I don't do much).

It's so inexpensive and DIY-esque there's no reason why you shouldn't. I've known people to do oil and filter changes every 2k.

If you drive your car hard you should change more regulary but if your a normal driver I would say once every 10 to 12k,but a diesel should defiantely get changed every 6months and you should flush with evry change

Most stealers give tjhem the same intervals to stop people being put off of buing diesels but if you talk to most mechanics they will say they need servicing more and if you have worked on a diesel you would know what I mean

screw driver all the way through it and luckily it came off was hard work though

I will do it every 10k now :)

I used a strap lever thingy to remove my filter, was preety tight but got it in end and if that fails its either a screwdriver or find someone bigger to undo it by hand lol
