Car jerking when accelerating

  LN03 FJZ
Few nights ago I tightened my alternator belt, as it was squealing. The squealing went away for about a day and then came back, but also now my car jumps/jerks when accelerating, mainly in 1st 2nd 3rd gears. Anyone know what the problem is and how to fix this?

Cheers

Could be lots of things. Give as much detail as you can. Throttle position, any difference wether engine cold or warm, engine load (worse on hills etc), how vicious is it (mild drops in power or full on learner can't do the clutch yet). Engine management light on?

A video can help but obviously get a friend to film it!

will help as much as i can, sometimes its a lot worse than other times, but theres no clear reason to why its worse at specific times (one day it will only do it once or twice, next day it does it every time). it seems to do it when building revs at around 1500-2000 in 1st 2nd and 3rd, but mainly 2nd and 3rd. no engine management light. have noticed it does it most when i am trying to build speed and throttle is fully down or nearly fully down

Hope this helps

Cheers

When was it last serviced? If there is no engine management light I would start with the ignition system. Plugs, leads, coils/coil packs etc. Injectors faults, lambda sensors etc tend to throw up fault codes but not always.

Sadly I don't have many details for models in the clio range other than the sports so I'm unsure exactly which sensors that your car may have to check.

Is it cold and damp when it does it? Has it been better in the better weather?

i have the exact same problem, i had a misfire around 400miles ago and changed spark plugs and it fixed it, now my alternator is gone and it's stuttering randomly at 2-3k revs when fully accelerating, doesn't happen so often, just usually when accelerating hard, thinking it might be the alternator, changing it today so i'll have to see if it fixes it

Depends on the garage. If you know one you can trust then may be worth a try. I was told by the last garage I had a chat with I needed discs, pads, lower arms, had a buckled wheel etc when I had vibration issues at speed and when braking and was told I was a dick for wanting my balancing checked. Had all wheels balanced elsewhere and vibration was gone. His alternator was squealing not shot. Has the car been serviced recently? There's no point fault finding on a car if all the basics haven't been done. A completely knackered alternator would eventually fail to provide enough juice to run the engine.

If it's better in warmer weather I would go down the ignition route and also check any electrical connectors to the various sensors. Also remove coilpack and check it's not cracked on the bottom and full of rust. That caused the misfire on my sport.

If the belt is tight and in good condition a trick to stop it squeeling is to rub some bath soap on the friction sides while it is running. Use long nose pliers or something, mind those fingers.
