Car Keyed - Insured?

  Renault meggy
I had my car keyed while at college on monday and was wondering where I stand on regards to insurance?
Will it effect my no claims and will my insurance go up?
There are two scratches down the passanger side of the car (one is on plastic and is not too deep, other one is very deep and looks aweful)
How much will this cost if I don't go through insurance?

Thanks,
Hixxey

yes it would affect your no claims bonus, really not worth it..... your probably looksing at at least 400 quid to put it right...

Hixxey, has the deep scratch gone through the paint ?? can you see primer underneath ? Can you get a finger nail in the scratch.
If it's not "overly deep" you might be able to get away with just T cutting it out - T cut is a cutting compound though, so don't go mad with it. If not T cut, use some scratch x on it.
Or go to a decent body shop - they might be able to "mop" it for you.

You will have to tell them you made a claim when you renew. Hardly seems worth it for a panel respray! Just pay out and get it done. Can't cost more than your excess can it?

easier to repair than claim as you will pay for excess to start of with , then you premium will go up as you've lost a year's no claims bonus

Yes, luckily mine are quite light and havn't gone through to the metal, they aren't very wide either move like it was done with a blade or something so they can be pen'ed, filled up with lacquer and smoothed over with some G88 pasteto make them far less visible.

Depends tho some key's Ive seen have been done with so much force it's also dented the metal

The usual rule of thumb is that if you can get your thumbnail in a scratch it won't polish out. The difficulty of the repair also depends on what colour the car is. If it won't polish out, try ringing round your local Chipsaway franchisees - ask them if they do "Mirraclear" repairs, which are suitable for large repairs on flat panels (the normal Chipsaway PC52 repairs are crap for this sort of thing). Make sure they've been using Mirraclear for a year or so, if they have it should be much cheaper than a bodyshop job and the repairs are very good.
