Car Limping hom?!?!

Aargh, my car broke down today, went to pick up some mates in the pouring rain (seriously lashing it down) so was driving nice and safely, pulled up outside, And went in for a cuppa, when i jumpd back into the car turnd it on a coil like light came on in the dash in the centre between the speedo and rev counter, the handbook it says Engine Management Light (looks like a pulse and coil) car started sticking at 1300 revs and when a put my foot flat out on the gas the revs only move up 1 notch and just stay there (made my 1.2 even slower, lol), so i phoned AA, when the guy turned up he didnt have a clue, he said something about a limp mode kicking in, so he towed me home. I reckon its got something to do with the rainy weather, rain gettin into electrics or maybe engine?????

Any ideas ppl, i'm broke so cant afford £90p/h at renault for them to have a look, any suggestion on what i could check much appreciated. the AA guy was a proper knob, he reckons renaults are most likely newish cars to break down

humm this sounds familier, it could be ther same as what i had with mine, but my revs keps goin up and down without me doin anything.

mine was the MAP sensor,
as for limp mode, yup sucks doesnt it, i had the fault codes wiped off my ecu and that cured it i think thats the only way to do it, renault charge £82 for dignostics but any non specialist garrage should be able to do it for you

  As father and son....
I had this on my old Dynamique. I had the entire engine loom replaced, coil packs replaced, spark plugs changed and it STILL did it. Known fault and Renault just fob you off. The only thing that helped for any length of time was removing and cleaning all the accelerator potentiometer (spelling) . didn't do it for ages then, but thats just what they told me

get it fixed mate, and f**k arnold clark theyre w*****s. I had happen to me on the M6 toll.....not a good place for it.

I had exactly the same problem on mine, they changed the coils, spark plugs, throttle position sensor, throttle body and then finally the entire wiring loom which eventually fixed the problem, took several weeks with the usual haven't got the parts in stock so i'd have to bring it back in. Mine did it on the motorway aswell which really isn't good, its like slamming on the brakes with no lights coming on.

guys my cars runnin ok now, turned it on and the engine management light came on, so floored it a couple of times, but it seemed to stop at 5000 rpm instead of 6000rpm, then a mate told me to hold the button on end of right hand stalk for ten seconds then turn the car on, revs and speedo started goin up down by themselve (my 1.2 was hittin 120mph), an all teh lights came on, he told me keep pressing the stalk btton and the push reset on the dash, not to sure what the problem was, but now sorted, think it may have been the heavy rain from the other day, coz thats when the problem started..
