car not starting problem ?!

for a friend .....

say the battery and alternator are fine what else would sporadically make the car not start ?
it seems to be very random. first thoughts were alternator but since we've deff ruled that out.
it could be the battery but few things seem to say it isnt :S

could the fuel pump or ecu cause this ? im thinking ecu as idle isnt as normal, it seems to idle below 1k when cold and seem as though its about to cut out.

tdc sensor? is it cranking over, just not firing?

it fires over but its as if theres no petrol getting in even though theres tons in the tank
thats why im ruling out the battery, as it turns over.

my bet would be tdc.... is it random-ish?

is the tdc sensor easy to replace ? i.e myself and/or my mate ?

Its a commonish fault apparently. 182 under warrenty still?
