Car problems

I'm new to this forum , I have a clio 52 plate , and tonight I went over a pot hole and it made quite a thud. Shortly after my car started making a whirring noise when driving - the noise only lasts a few seconds then goes away. It also sounds like a squeaking and creaking noise from under the car on the passenger side. Any suggestions to what's wrong is appreciated.

Welcome, it could be one of the belts that is squeeking, if it still squeeks, put your engine on and lift your bonnet to determine where abouts it is coming from

The noise only comes when I'm driving , the engine sounds fine when the car is stationary , the noise is at it's loudest in 3rd gear and there's a noticeable shake on the gear stick.

Could be something to do with the gearbox then, I mean I dont know for certain, just my guess if its making a noise in 3rd gear and the gear stick is shaking, then thats what springs to mind that its your gearbox

Can also feel a small vibration on the clutch , all indications are pointing at the gearbox , I'll get it up to the garage. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

No problem :) how long have you had your car? If you have had it for a while have you noticed anything to with the transmission not feeling right or has it only happened since the pothole?

Only had the car a few months , it only started playing up after the pothole. Hopefully not to pricey to get it fixed as I've just got it through it's MOT and that wasn't cheap !

Hopefully it doesnt cost a alot for you then :) mind you, you said it was a 52 plate still going after 16 years is very good, I know what you mean, just spent £350 on a new exhaust system as the other was rotting away and had a massive hole in it, that left a hole in my pocket...

The previous owners of the car have looked after it well , the dash and interior is in great condition for it's age. The car itself was only £500 , needed a few small repairs with the engine , but getting it that cheap a few repairs is expected. Keeping a car on the road is always gonna leave a hole in your pocket at some time , worth it though when the car is running smooth again :)

Not bad, like you said, for £500 you are going to expect some repairs on the car :) I agree its an expensive luxury to own a car and keep it on the road, you would have thought with the amount of money that goes in cars, they would at least be able to keep the roads pothole free :p mind you, if the pot hole has caused damage to your car, I have heard apperently that if you take a photo of the pothole and give as much evidence that it has damaged your car, you can take that up with the council and they pay for the damage, I imagine its a lot of mither and whether its true or not I dont know, I have only heard someone mention it once so I could be wrong :p

I imagine it would take a lot of time to get the council to go through with it you know what there like with parting with money , I'll get it to a garage and let you know what's up with the car but as you said probably something to do with the gearbox.

rah thats true, again wwhether its true I dont know... okay then yeah sounds a good idea, hope you get it sorted and it doesnt cost too much, let me know how it goes on then :)
