Hi I took my imlet off today to clean cam cover and noticed the gasket on the rear is like the instant gasket stuff. After putting it back together as is revs quite high now could an air leak from there cause this?

An air leak will deffo be the cause. You really ought to replace the gasket with an actual item but silicone will serve as a temporary measure

Because these engines run on Speed vs Density as a fuelling algorythm it means that any extra air that gets in, is fuelled for, and hence will have a big effect on idle rpm.

As Mick days, far better to clean that rubbish off and put a proper gasket on, Adam at wolves renault is a good person to get them from (he is on here)

Shoot down to Adam at Renault tomorrow or do as you said earlier about nicking the seal off the cup.

Cowboys trick using sealant.

Check the inlet track for any signs of leaks. The ATS and MAP sensor would be my first points to check.

Yep that's the one. It could also be an injector seal or even the inlet itself. You really need to start spraying stuff and looking for leaks
