Car sluggish with sub on

lol .7 of a volt is loads when we are talking amp out put (look here whats that 30watts diff if only 2.4volts)

and not matter where the cap is connected it will pull it away from the amp as it has a lower resistance

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
no its not! if its lower resstance, then the cabling isnt sufficiant! also, if the amps work on 12v's, it dosnt matter that theres a .7 volt drop if the cars producing 13volts...

  Polo + Micra
no but look at most amps outputs are measured at 14.4v

the cap will have a lower resistance than the amp so current will flow the greatest at the lowest resistance inother words the cap and not the amp

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
that alpine says it works at 14.4, for an amp like that then it wouldnt work...but for a 12v amp it would.

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
the cap dosnt have less resistance than the amp, the amp would pull the power if anything...

if the cap did hve more resistance, then it could be rectifiyed with a resistor before the cap to match the amp resistance

  Polo + Micra
most amps are "12v" but the outputs are given at 14.4v look at 80% of the amps on that site.

also how big is the diode you got on the (cap output?)?

  Polo + Micra
lol the cap has a resistance of about 0.005 ohms(2.4kA at 12v) an awful lot lower than most amps thats why you have to charge them so you don't weld the power cable to them.

putting a resistor in is going to negate everything the cap is supposed to be doing

no you havent lol. youve stated why you think they dont work. have you ever tryed all the situations iv mentioned? i think not! lol.

Moving slightly back on topic, I do apologise.

If I took my "-" to chassis earth lead off to clean it will my car spaz out, last time I messed around with the battery the alarm went off.
I'm going to take the ground off tommorow give it a going over and sandpaper the bit where it bolts onto the chassis aswell, don't want to do it outside my house with the alarm going off though as some of the people are mugs round here.

no alot of uber brainy people many years ago proved they don't work i'm just spouting their thorey:D

i may be a run of the mill spark but i understand electricity better than most(on cs) when it comes to car audio

Send him over to talkaudio where theres literally hundreds of proper audiophiles and people that compete in SPL / SQ competitions see how many of those guys think caps are useless...Oh thats prett much all of them.

hahaha your compairing people that have much greater power sources to run there equipment, not the standard 45amp battery and 45amp alt m8ty. jumping to a totaly different league with what you said. i think you'll find that there amps have caps BUILT IN, not big enougth to do the job of a 1f, but just big enought to smooth out the power signal. even my crappy 280wrms amp has a small one built in, most electronics do, its needed elese the power going to the amp would be all over the place...

i take it you mean from the battery its self? will be fine, but i would recomend disconnecting both terminals ( + and -) so if either of the connectors quickly touch the battery again it wont put a momen tery flash of voltage to your ecu. also, leave the connections off while you clean the connection to the chassie.

the alram shouldnt go off, unless its using a CAP and a backup power source...it might go off when you reconnect.

correct me if im wrong (i dont think i am) but if you take 4 1f caps, and then wire them up in series (neg to pos) across the rails, you'll have a 4f total capacitance avalible...that baby would work very very nicely.

wrong you connect them in parallel

with that config you will have .25F so less than useless.

45Ah batt means it can run at 45A for 1 hour and be discharged does stop it being able to output 500A if needed

also the caps that are in side the amp are connected to the votage rails of the psu of the amp

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
yes my mistake, it is parallel...however the concept outcome of my theory remains the same ;)

btw how old are you dink? i know it totaly off topic but is interesting to know...
