car tax shock

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
:S Got my 172 a short while ago. Just got my tax renewal through post.

I know it sounds silly but never thought of checkin price of car tax on the 172 before buying.

Opened the envelope to discover it will cost me 104 pounds for 6 month or 190 for 1 year. i only used to pay 60 for 6 month on my last car.

Shock horror!
I never realised there were different prices for different cars! (duh)
That is terrible!

Is it right?

Yep its right lol comes with owning a sport

It pays for all these fantastic surfaced roads we get to drive on daily

Takes the piss imo, the roads in a remote mountain in North Wales are a million times better than the s**t I have to drive on here in London. Just how difficult is it to pay someone to lay blacktop.

It should reduce the number of accidents as well due to tyres gripping the surface better.

I only pay £125 a year for mine but I havent got a sport. It annoys me about the state of our roads too. They always seem to be digging them up and re-surfacing but it never makes them any better. I would class some of the roads around our way as pretty dangerous, darn great holes and major dips where they have sunk. It's disgusting when you think of all the taxes we pay. According to Surrey County Council, they say they have had no money from the government for the upkeep of the roads this year! So where the bloody hell is all our money going?

the money goes to the goverment to be spent on other things apart from the roads, just like the tax on fuel ,thats why out roads are so fucked up compared to other countrys

I personally think we should pay tax on how may miles we do, not what f**king cars we have. It's a bloddy joke! It's about time road tax was scrapped.

In July I paid a fiver more for my 1.6 mk6 escort (i know, sorry, but am planning my RS purchase) than my dad paid for his 2.5 TD Volvo S60. Un-bloody-believable!

its annoying that someone in a 1970's dodge charger pays the same as someone in a 2.0

always thought that was a stupid tax

if its registered before 1972 its probably free, one of the reasons i want a classic
