car tries to turn over but stops

Replaces discs and pads and done a full bleed with ignition on and now my car just begins to start then stops like the power cuts or it seizes. Surely the only link to the brake maintenance is the fact the ignition was on? Doesn't seem like a low battery does it?

Checked the battery voltage? Tried bumping it? checked the voltage at the starter solenoid? Thats the first 3 things id start with.

Don't have a volt meter unfortunately and not even sure how to use one, if the starter was stuck could I still bump start it? Just that was a thought I had that the starter may be jammed.
May just hook up a charger for a while and hope. Thanks

Yeah can bump start it without a starter motor at all. The starter motor wont fire out the spindle till it receives power to the solenoid via the ignition live. You said it tries to start? does it sound like its weakening or does it just stop turning over all together? If it aint getting weaker could well me your crank sensor, try putting it in gear and rocking the car back and forward a bit then try it, used to work a treat on my old 106 gti till i got round to swapping sensor.

Yeah I tried rocking in gear as I thought if the starter was stuck it would dislodge it, I would say it does sound a bit weak tbh. Will try charging the battery first or bump/jumping it.

Hope this doesn't come across as condescending as that's not my intention but you should invest in a multimeter when you get the chance, its an invaluable piece of kit for any car enthusiast and essential for finding electrical gremlins. For instance you would be able to rule out the batter instantly or if it is down on voltage you'd have your problem bossed. Once again not trying to be a **** just trying to give good advice.

Good luck, hope ya get it sorted.

Yeah I've always thought that I should get one just electrics not my thing- can't see it, it's a black art.

Right I'm a fool, with ignition on the battery light and the exclamation Mark is on so that means dead battery?

If you've had the ignition on while bleeding your brakes, maybe you've just drained the battery?

That what I hope DrRollo, just plugged it in to a charger and it's 3/4s up the gauge to fully charged but I must admit some mornings it struggles especially in the cold. Fingers crossed! Cheers for the advice

Aye, sounds like the battery has drained.

Any reason for having the ignition on whilst bleeding the brakes?

I had read in a tread on here that it can help to clear air from the master cylinder, don't know if that's right.

If air has got into the system/abs, that'll be a nightmare to get out without using a pressurised bleeder and clip to open and close valves in a certain way.

Well I kept the reservoir full the whole time but I've had the calipers off so was expecting some air but not to be such a pain to get out.

Cheers mate, think I'd prefer bad brakes and a car that starts though.

Ah Thanks mate, it would be a bit of a journey wouldn't it. Perseverance will pay off I'm sure.
