car waxing

hi everyone gonna wash/clay and wax the car today...just have a quick question as i have never waxed a car before in my life

is it best to wax the wax the whole car then polish it off or do it in stages bonnet,then wings etc??

any advice appreciated

Hi

Yeah when I wax mine, I do a section at a time i.e bonnet, then bumper etc.

It's easier and helps ease the arm aches of doing the whole car at one time!

I buff the whole car in one go though

According to Auto Glymn the best way to do it is to wash car first and get in bone dry (which is the easy no brian bit)! Then wax the entire car front to back, top to bottom. Then with the wax on do all your trim bits with a vinyl trim cleaner (this way if you go onto the paint its protected with the wax). Once you do this go over all the panels removing the wax and giving it a good buffing! Last job being cleaning the windows and wheels and stuff, unless you put a final extra protection top coat on.

Plus supposedly the longer you leave the wax on the better finish and more protection you get (But also the longer on the harder it is to get off)!!!!

Pretty sure that different companies recommend different ways depending on the nature of their particular wax, but normally it's fine to do the whole car at once, but I'd recommend then taking it off in the same order!

On a new car i cant really see the point of all this super clay bar cack,but each to there own.I wash mine and get the leather on it and then about an hour later get the wax on it.Its only a clio ffs and it can be waxed and polished in 1/2 an hour

I use that turtlewax wash and go stuff in a bucket of hot water then a cold pressure washer on fine mist setting.... Seems to do an absolutely brill job.. then I wipe the car down to dry it off... beautiful stuff!

Mate you want to try it. On my new 182 (3 months old) I clayed the roof and bonnett after washing it, you should have seen the s**t which the clay picked up. Clay get the crap the wash does'nt.

clays ok but takes to long to use, we use a stuff to dewax cars at work called co-prox...? soak the car in it leave for 5 min sponge over rise and will take anything of the car doesnt matter how long its been there,

Waxed in 30 mins yes, polished er no not if your doing it properly

Clay is meant to be used on relatively new bugs / crap that aren't removed through washing. Really old cars will have had the bits of gunk there so long that they'll be fused into the paintwork. Well, at least that's what I found on my Fiesta.

If there's any really stubborn bits of bird poo on your roof, see if the outline of them is still there after washing your car... chance are they will be (I'm talking really stubborn!)...the clay will get rid of it.

It really depends on which wax your going to be using. Most will have instructions on the tin/bottle.

Some, usually the synthetics, like AG you can do the whole car in 1 go, others, usually natural waxes, you do 1 section at a time.
