Car wont go above 5000rpm

Everytime i go above 5000rpm in my clio, the engine just stops and a bunch of warning lights come on, then the electical fault light stays on. The limiter is supposed to be 6250rpm and even when you hit that its not supposed to just turn off is it? So has anyone got any idea what could be wrong? its realling pissing me off, it also has starting problems, i have changed the spark plugs, tdc sensor and ignition coils.

first thing I would do is check earth strap and battery connections. Then look at other things.

Battery connections are fine, whats an earth strap :S

blocked exhaust can often restrict although im not sure this would initiate any lights. if it was engine management you wouldnt rev over 2k?

the earth going from the battery -ve to bodywork. it's worth checking and only takes a minute or so.
