Car won't start! :(

  Clio Sport 172 ph2
Hi, I bought a 172 phase 2 last week and have had a few problems starting it! If its used regularly it starts fine, e.g every couple of hours or so, then no problem. Its when its been left over night or if I'm at work so like 8 hours. The engine turns over but won't fire up, my dad looked at it yesterday and noticed a battery lead wasn't connected very well so he tightened it and it started straight away. I used it afterwards and checked it later last night and no problem. However it won't start again today :( I have read a few threads about immobliser problems, but my one goes solid when ignition is on.

I don't know much about cars (comes with being a woman) so thought I'd ask on here before I phone up a garage tomorrow to take a look! Please, please, please someone help...

if it stays solid it's an immobiliser fault, the light should go off after a few seconds

Im having a similar problem in one of my 172s (Imobiliser light stays on, rather than going out (normal) or flashing (imobilser not deactivated). My thread here, I have tried swapping the ECU and associated imobiliser parts (UCH, barrel sensor etc) over from my other 172 and it didnt solve it, TDC, speedo, dials, coilpack, the list goes on. I've run out of 'components' to swap/check!
There is a thread here, where someone had an issue with the power feed to the ECU which solved it however I tried checking all the cables/fuses/relays on mine and it hasnt solved it. My next step is to check the whole loom!

If your not familar with cars then get it to a garage and make sure you post any results here!

Try tuning the ignition off all together then holding your button on your key fob and turn the key to cranking and see if that works. Mine has the same problem turns out it was the key fob
Hope this helps
And post results :)

we had a problem similar to yours on a 1.4l clio, an yeah the immobilliser light was on still and wouldnt turn over, we then found out it was the earth cable had snapped and we bolted back the the engine plate and it has been fine ever since, about 11 quid to buy from halfrauds
