What is required to remove this ?

I think the canister has been chucked but the feed and connector is still there.

can this just be fed out the bottom without the canister ?

You need to leave the sensor connected otherwise it will bring a light up on the dash.

As for the piping, you can take the bit right off that goes to the manifold and seal it up at the manifold( I used a sleeve and a tip tie)

and the other pipe goes back to the tank you will need to blank off as well.

I left the sensor connected but sealed the 2 holes on the sensor as it kept clicking really loudly and driving me crazy! Nice and quiet now and no lights :)

As for the pipes, I took off the manifold pipe completely and sealed the inlet end as Bobby. described. Then just zip tied the pipe from the fuel tank up with the sensor, didnt block it or anything

Seems fine!
