anyone done this for a decent price, went to my local dealer and i was looking at about 150 quid for bars + 2 bike clamps. is this the norm or does anyone know a cheaper solution.
I used to put the seats down and take my Cannondale apart, but it soon became apparent that this was going to damage the interior in the long run.
I bought myself a Thule system for about £150 all in - and Id recommend carrying the bike on the roof to anyone. On my old 1.2 it slowed the car up massively and even on my 16v I can feel it slowing, but it saves so much hassle and frees up the inside of the car for any luggage you might have.
I used the thule roof mounted system on my golf works a treat you just have to be careful when loading and unloading the car, especially after a log ride when your arms are tired.
I briefly tried the halfords rear boot mounted job that straps on it was a complete waste of time. I didnt trust it and had to keep stopping every 30 miles or so to keep pulling the straps tight.
