cars redline keeps chamgeing???

hey guys, the redline on my phase1 172 keeps changing. sometimes it will bounce at the first red dot on the dash roughly 6800rpm. but other times it will rev up till the double dotted line roughly 7200rpm.

does anyone know if this has happend before or how it can be sorted?

Why are you redlining it constantly? :S

They have a cold running limit, which means it wont rev so high until it's warmed up.

Cold limiter, you're probably revving it too hard before it's warmed up properly.

Power peaks at about 6300rpm, so no real need to hit the limiter.

Your stat is probably knackered if its still doing it after a good while running

on ph1's when the coolant is < 75c the redline is at 6700 rpm

when the coolant is >75c
1st and 2nd gear 7200rpm
3rd, 4th and 5th gear 7000rpm

right i never hit the limmiter unless it cuts in early. i always wait for the car to warm up properly and im no perminantly redlineing the car! im not some little boy racer, just something iv noticed over the few months iv had the car.
