Cat blowing again - decat to fix?

I had the clamp replaced from the down pipe to the cat a few months back, as it was blowing, but it's started doing it again recently, so I presume it's going to keep doing it.

I believe it's the cat at fault, where it joins the down pipe.

If I was to get a decat, will it through any lights on? Or do most people with one not have any trouble?

I take it a replacement cat will be costly.

replacement cat is £900 from renault, but you can usually get them on here/ebay for 50. My cat was the same and the garage cut the cracked end off and welded a peice off a new exhaust that was the same. Been fine so far.

Well, I'd like to lose the cat, and I can always get a bit welded on the end so it fits again come mot time.

I'm just concerned about the emissions light flashing up. I don't want it on.

£916.50 for a cat from Renault.

Can get a sports cat for about £260, or a decat for £40, but have to change come mot time.

So nobody has had issues with a decat? I don't want lights lol.

Sports cat shouldn't have any issues. But alot of people get the light with a decat, think its hit and miss. One way to stop it is to leave the lambda connected but don't put it in the decat hole. Plug the hole with a bolt or something instead.

I don't really wanna "bodge" anything though lol. Maybe I'll go with a sports cat, then it just needs fitting, and that's that. Plus it's legal, and I don't have to be concerned about what happens if I were to have an accident.

It is just a light, if it comes on it comes on. It doesn't cause any harm. If you have an rstuner you can reset the fault codes and the light will go out.

I ain't got RS Tuner.

Doesn't matter if it does any harm or not, it'll bother the s**t out of me. Plus if a fault actually does occur somewhere, I will have no way of knowing, as the lights on anyway.

I replaced my cat with a YS decat. The cat cracked at the join and it was deemed a comsumable by Renault.

You have a light on Chris?

I have a Renault used car warranty on my car, as I got it from Renault, but they ain't gonna cover the cat, surprised they didn't on the manufacturer's warranty though!!

Just stick some black tape over the tubing where the LED lights up through to the control panel.

Its a 100% fix, cant be seen and can be removed at anytime.

Only down side is you have to take the dash top off to fit it.

Any other way, ie replacing bolts in this hole and that, removing rear Lamb is all hit and miss.

complain to renault uk. My cat broke 2 months after warranty and they paid 90% of the fee. I paid £101 or something for a brand new cat fitted.

I had to get a new cat there the now. Had my car 3 weeks from a renault dealer and the 4 month old rear box broke and the cat did aswell.

Took it to renault and they refused to fix it but after a few threats involving trading standards and newspapers and a few arguements i got a full exhaust!

Still wanting a decat though but the dash light thing puts me off

I think I'm going to get a decat, and get the cat repaired, as it's thh join that's buggered and apparently some people have got them repaired. So as soon as it's fixed, put it back on and flog the decat.

When i get my sport i'm definately having it decat'd they sound awsome and make it more driveable. Can always find someone willing to bodge an mot for you. or just stick it back on whist you have mot

if you don't want lights. Don't plug in the downstream lambda. Just plug the hole with a suitable bolt.
Leave the downstream lambda on the loom bagged up somewhere neat.

silly question, plug the one in nearest to the manifold aye?

what do you do with the other? put it in a sandwich bag and tape it up somewhere or something?

^^

I thinks that's what he means. I take it there's one before and one after the cat. Leave the second one unplugged I presume.

Will try it when I eventually get a decat, unless the car sells.

Funnily enough, it's stopped blowing lol. I'm going to get a new clamp fitted I think, just to make sure it's done though.

You can take the second one out on the 182 but if I remember correctly the light will still come on, you can remove the second lambda on a 172 with no probs though and the light wont come on.

Take the dashboard top off and put a bit of tape over the light you dont have to rip apart the dials you can just squeeze in there. Thats what I did no-one could ever tell.

^^exactly. I'll have to get the 'how to' pics back up from a couple of years back lol

Its easy enough to do and is a 100% fix unlike the rest like blocking this cat hole here that cat hole there etc etc

I'v got a decat pipe on my 182 and the engine light is on. It doesnt bother me too much, just worried about getting it passed the MOT in feb.
Though if you go and put a decat pipe on you may not want to put the old cat back on. It sounds different.
I'd put the decat on and live with it for a little while and then decide weather to get the original cat repaired and put back on.
