Cat D Clio!

Hi,

Currently looking for my first car and seen a 2003 Clio which I really like but is a Cat D. Says it had tailgate damage only and it's fully repaired. Checked with the insurance and they told me that it won't be affected.

I'm not really clued up on cars so I was wondering if someone could advise me on how to check that the rear end of the car has been repaired correctly and that it's safe. Other than looking at the boot structure and underneath, is there anything else I could check.

Check the boot floor and under the spare wheel, check the structure behind the bumper, check the roof for creases. Check where the tailgate bolts to the shell.

I went to view a Monaco 172 few months back, as soon as you looked at the rear end the bumper was sagging beneath the rear lights. Opened the boot and the boot lid still had creases in it.

Lifted the carpet, and the boot floor was crushed in... 'oh, i didnt know' he said

Faxo - Oh Dear!

Personally I'd stear clear of Cat D's unless you plan on keeping it for the rest of your life!

They can be a nightmare to shift, plus you always run that risk of there being something wrong which you just can't see...

I'd maybe be tempted if there was a full on picture ciary of the damage and the repair work that had been carried out... but you'll always put off atleast 75% (imo) of buyers when it comes to sellign as soon as you put Cat D in the advert.

Dad went to see it today. Said the repair was shocking so I'm defo not buying it.
