Renault dealers are the LAST people you should ask for info on the V6 if my experience is anything to go by!

I think the part Alex refers to is one pipe, but fitted with 2 cats, one in each end. Theres some confusion as to whether there are pre-cats in the downpipes from the manifold, not sure if its the same on all builds. Some people refer to these as being 2 more cats, so depending on who you believe, the Vee runs either 2 or 4 cats.

my version of dialogys says:

60 20 011 179 CATALYTIC CONV 648.96 ---3 x 1

it is infact a one piece cat... the confusion may lie in the fact it has two pipes going into the centre of the cat (from each side of the block), and an outlet pipe at either side of that going into either side of the rear silencer. So in a way, its designed as two cats stuck back to back, in a round about sort of way.

so what shall i do, its running real sluggish, terribly actully and the light is on

will renault stick one in for me??

My friend had a cat put on his as his went, and reualt charged a fortue, cant remember how much, but i nearly fainted!!! Also He had to wait a really really long time for one to come into his local renualt garage. I would say depending on what condition hmhmhms cat is I would try and get hold of that, as it should have everything you need, and I imagine a lot cheaper than renault. Id pm him to find out more info if I was you.

pm AndyGDI

i seem to recall someone mentioning him in relation to V6 decats - got the impression he was maybe working on something to prevent the ecu from detecting a problem with the cat - probably the best bet, and cheapest (until MOT time anyway)

Or if you do want to put cats back on, try Scotty6r4 - he sorted me out when I had cat failure on my vee - much cheaper than renault, and he has them in stock!

How does the car feel? Taking out the cat is not supposed to affect performance from what i hear from this forum. The light comes on but the performance is not supposed to be afftect.

also...the front pipes have expansion chambers in them...THEY ARE NOT CATS..the v6 has ONLY 1 CAT ^^^ part number a couple of posts up...^^^

with the light on the car is in reduced power mode mate.
I have read in other posts and it says that the engine light caused by the decat doesnt affect the performance at all though.

MK2 V6s have two cats, one in each downpipe and I can go and get some photos for those who dont believe. As for the engine light, it doesnt do anything, least of all affect engine performance. Mine has been on ever since I fitted BenRs full system which is also a de-cat. Its got far more pull above 4k than before so I can honestly tell you it doesnt lose power. Just get over the light and forget the cats is my opinion.

There is a lot of guess work going on here!

The car in question had the cats removed by Pro-Speed, and I can confirm (Ive got the pics as evidence) that there are THREE seperate cats. Both sides of the manifold have one each, and then they join together into a third cat. All these were knocked out, and going by the amount of work it took to get to them, replacement would be VERY expensive.

But, loopee, no disrespect, but I think youre mistaken about what is causing the problem. Have you had the coil packs checked out? They go all the time on V6 mk1s and are the most likely cause of the performance drop.

As Ive said before, when I owned that car, I never had any performance related issues from the decat. If anything, it was more free-revving and pulled harder at high rpm.

Feel free to drop me more PMs if you want to chat about it.

So there are two precats on the downpipes(header pipes) and one main at after that? Do you know if any of the cats of flange points on both ends so I can replace it with a straight pipe and put the cats back on if the light actually causes any porblems? Most likely the two precats are built into the downpipes right?

This is sooooo confusing!

Scotty6R4 told me in no uncertain terms that the Mk1 Vee runs FOUR cats
ClarkieV6 told me (and has repeated again above) that it runs just ONE cat!
Miketheman2k says they run THREE!
& For what its worth, my local Renault dealer seemed to think there were TWO!

Who is right?

All I know is, my "Cat" problems seem to be resolved (between Scott & Alex) so hopefully I wont have to find out for sure!

Took my Mk1 to the exhaust shop today. Can anyone tell me how many cats the Mk1s should have? One on each header and one after? if there is a third one, where is it? I couldnt find my third cat, think it has already been removed by my previous owner
