CCNA > CCNP?

Passed my CCNA today (did it via both ICND1 and ICND2) inside 12 months on the first attempts - pretty pleased with that :approve:

Just searching on what is next.
It seems you can now do specialism CCNA's, like Wireless. But my goal was ideally to get to CCNP status and review at that point. Although the specilisms sound like I could add their components to my CV for it to read a bit better.... so now not sure whether to add wireless on there (we are just about to implement it and I've lead the project) or to forge ahead with the ROUTE exam whilst ICND2 is fresh in the memory.

Anyone done either? any recommendations?

CCNP ROUTE book is £34 too! :S

Good luck mate. I stumbled on this (http://www.9tut.com/ccna-hotspot-questions) about 2 weeks ago and sure wish I'd found it sooner. They are actual old questions from the CCNA composite exam. Really good for backing up knowledge. The Boson training software with the CiscoPress books was awful, God awful, so much so that I would say it was a waste of time.

Let me know if you need any pointers, not trying to be patronising, just I wish I could have bounced ideas of someone when I was studying - helping make sense of it.

Straight to CCNP for you too... hmmm..... could I do both.... maybe a bit too much pressure.

Cheers for that :)

I work with a bloke with at least one CCIE (he might have more than one discipline done, but I can't remember) so he's f**king handy for little bits and pieces

Took me 15 minutes to twig subnetting earlier, was well happy  rest of the class didn't seem to get it

Well done! It's great when it just clicks. Pity ipv6 will wash it all away To some degree but I'm glad I've mastered it too. You will defo get that on both icnds. Lots of it in fact. From memory on icnd1 I had:

255.255.255.224 in cidr?

How many host addresses are useable with the network mask /28 ?

What does ip subnet zero command do?

Name the classful only routing protocols useable on a Cisco router (iOS 12.1)?

correct answers win a prize!

Wish you all the best with your study, great you've got a ccie to consult.

I think I will review the wireless ccna exam and purchase the ccnp book to get started.

I am doing CCNA security at the moment, seems to have a lot of useful stuff, apart from it wanting you to use cisco SDM which is shocking and not even Cisco use it

1) f**k knows. We've only looked at classful routing on ICND1 so far (I've 3 of 5 days in, just started setting up my router)
2) 16
3) f**k all nowadays (I think :p), but IIRC it used to allow the use of the 0 as a subnet rather than it being unusable
4) RIP

How many did I get? :p

number 2 is 14, don't forget your network and broadcast addresses which are unusable

By saying you used 9tut you've effectively just admitted to cheating btw.

Ccna is starting to mean nothing unfortunately as the questions and answers are readily available online, even for free, so effectively even someone who has not done the course, not read a book and never touched a switch can pass with a high mark :(

Well done for passing! If it was me - try and use the bits you have learnt in real world scenarios if you have the opportunity to do so. Gain experience etc, don't get too hung up on passing the next accreditation. Just make sure you pass one CCNP exam before your CCNA expires in 3 years:( passing 1 CCNP exam renews your CCNA

none of the questions were on the exam yesterday though. however a boson one was!
Only found the site two weeks ago, so was no help for icnd 1 but the legacy nature of the questions was good reference for 2.

Problem is, well not really a problem, but I'm recommending and implementing things from the ccnp curriculum in work, such as ip SLA and PBr. But then also implementing wireless! So the experience is there & it's my day job, just wanted to back it up with either/both quals.

Good effort. You got 1.5 out of 4.

1) /27
2) 14
3) Pretty much spot on, I don't see it on half of the new routers but you are correct in your explanation.
4) Correct, well half correct. IGRP as well.

Your prize is a broken octavia splitter. pm your address.

I had a look and the simulations are all on that site, and they have them word for word including the right screen shots!

Sims? I thought it was questions only? didn't see that.
Edit: I pressed home - and its full of sims! The NAT one was on the exam! Had no idea, cheating FTL - er.. do not use this site.

To be honest the questions on the are for the composite, but they are more akin to the text of the cisco press books - I have in authority that the questions are legacy (well none were on yesterdays icnd2) - but I wouldn't a) use this only b) use the boson rubbish that comes with the books c) trust anything on the web 100%. Like I said, I found it two weeks ago and the dozen or so questions relevant to icnd2 were as good as the review questions on the start of new chapters in the cisco press (I read 2 books a piece for the exams).

I hope the ccnp texts do not use another exam sim to that of the icnd series - they just don't correlate with each other.

I did my CCNA about a year and a half ago (didnt go down ICND route, Honestly I think its the "easy option") and im currently finishing my final degree year. Once Ive completed it ill be passing my CCNA Security hopefully within a 6 week period (MAX!!) - I studied it a year or two ago as one of my degree units so I want to go refresh that knowlege and also renew my CCNA. After thats done id like to do my CCDA mainly for the "project management" aspects in it which I think will be useful. Its personal goals really.

After that Its onto the CCNP.

BUT If I get a graduate scheme then Ill see what would be the most appropriate route.

Also why cheat on an exam? I must admit I used test inside questions to see what I knew once or twice and I did recognise some of the questions (I had no idea at the time). But at the end of the day Networking is a pretty agressive industry and if you dont know your s**t youre basically f**ked.

I'd be surprised if you needed anything but the Ccna when you're on the bottom rung of the working world.

You don't need to know how mpls works to make the teas :p
