CD/DVD Burner problem

  Monaco Blue Mk2
My laptop has a built in CD-R/RW / DVD-R/RW drive.
It has decided to stop reading any disc at all. It makes the noises that it is trying to read the disc but just doesn't recognise anything thats in it. It has done this in the past but then just started working again, however it's just not happening this time.

Has anyone any ideas? I really want to make a couple of CD's for in the car!!

BTW the drive is a Pioneer DVR K12RA (if that means anything to anyone)

Try a cd/dvd lens cleaner disc . Could just be a bit of sh1t on the lens .

Or the laser could be on the way out, you can tweak the pots but unless you know what your doing I wouldn't recommend it.

Its a bit unlikey i know but do you know anyone with the same laptop, you could try swapping the drive with another to see if you get the same problem. Will narrow it down to the drive being shagged rather than anything with the laptop.

I had this with my dell and they sent me a new optical drive under warrenty. So not much help but it could be just busted.
