Central locking issue . . . cant find anything from past threads

  172 cup
Rite here we go. Both the button on dash and key fob bring on the red light on dash (i.e to indicate its locked) but it isnt, it just arms the alarm. On pressing the key fob or dash button to re-open (even though its not locked) the locks make a noise as if there trying to unlock where as they don't when locking.

I've tried the 5 second dash button press with doors shut and no ignition which didn't do anything

All fuses are fine in side of dash, is there some relays somewhere?

Any help appreciated

Yep the relays in question are on the UCH's PCB and no doubt one has gone down due to water ingress... just fixing one as we speak by replacing both units and re-flowing the board as one shorted out and burnt the PCB track. Water always seems to get in and take out the CL circuit as the clip that holds the UCH up and to the dash has a slide clip component right over the two relays which is where the water gets in.

I can take a look to see if yours is salvageable though if you like but you'd need to send it to me. If it is repairable great, it'll be around £60 to repair. If its not, its about £350 for Renault to replace and code up.

How do I get to it mate? And would it be worth just trying new relays first?

Also where are you located

The UCH is in the passenger footwell area near the glovebox and the relays are part of the PCB... that's a "Printed Circuit Board".

Yes the relays can be changed however they're not your everyday 10A/30A standard relays and Maplins can't get them for you (I get mine from Germany) plus its not a job for the average DIYer either as replacing the relays requires surgical soldering and is only part of the job. The PCB itself needs inspecting, testing and re-flowing.

I'm in Nottingham but I wouldn't want your entire car for a job like this - UCH via post only.

Notts aint too far from me actually. Dont suppose you ever venture to newark or even closer to lincoln do you could drop it off to you. By the way once its removed will the car start?

I'm in Newark every once in a while as my parents live there. You're more than welcome to drop it off/meet up next time o'm over but the cost of a Special Delivery will be cheaper than driving.

No, the car will not run without the UCH as it controls all the little things that are taken fro granted... wipers, electric windows, central locking, security, etc.

Thought that would be the case. Yer fair point about postage costs. So £60 to fix it, have you had much success in the past? If it dosn't fix it is the price still the same?

Also how long would you need it for? obviously would like it to be as short a period as possible as the car wont run

Is it accessable from just getting down in footwell?

Depends entirely on the post service from Germany as i'm still waiting for the parts to repair the one I have on my desk now and they were ordered on Saturday. Yes, there is good success rates with UCH repairs but I cannot offer any kind of assurances without seeing the actual unit as for all I know you could have an Ooffin great burn hole in the PCB which renders it scrap!

If the board is repaired but doesn't resolve it the price is dropped and based on parts and postage only.

Cool. Any chance you could order two more resistors as it WILL be coming to you to be looked at, Just need it in the car whilst I sort a few other bits? Just to speed things up a little. Is diamondmotors your company then and is that your mob on website? If so will give you a bell next week

Also is it accessible for removal from passenger footwell?

I can't put in the order just yet i'm afraid... not until I've recieved the ones i've recently ordered as it'll confuse ze Germans but yes DiamondMotors is my company and yes, the mobile number listed is direct to me. The website contact form goes straight to my BlackBerry to and is actually the fastest way to my pocket but phone calls are equally as welcome... if I'm under a car though I cna't answer.

Please, don't send me text messages.
