Putting the key in the lock will not operate the central locking. Have you checked the battery in the fob as this is the most probable cause.

As I remember it (bear with me as I've never owned the Mk2 ph1) but I believe the lock on the door operates that single door lock only. You can sit in the car, lock the doors with the dash button. Get out of the car then lock that 1 door with the key. All doors are then secured.

Daz is right, the locking is single point from the remote, some of the later cars can be locked from the drivers door, if you remember the drivers door is the passenger door (French init)

i will get some batterys from hellfrauds 2moro and then see what happens yea what ever do i use the key in it only locks that door... and if my alarm goes off i have no way of turning it off... my car has a thachum catergory 2 alarm ... should it have an extra fob or will the key in the door work.

the alarm has never gone off yet

The remote on your key operates the locking the locking control module switches on the alarm. So if the batteries are flat, none of it will work from the key.

If the alarm was fitted by Renault at the point of import like the 172/182 cars or fitted by the Renault dealer, It may well be a Cat:1 Thatcham device upgrade, as combined with the factory fit immobilser, it meets the criteria for this classification.

You should have the VSIB certificate if thats the case.

Once you install your new batteries, you may need to push the button on your key, up to 5 times to resynchronise the receiver with the rolling code generated by the key.

Let us know how you get on.;)
