Changing a bulb in a williams

  williamsclio.co.uk/forum

Hi all.

Im currently trying to change a bulb which lights up the oil pressure gauge on my williams.

Ive removed the dash board top, and have managed to unclip the passenger side housing of the oil dials. But how the hell do you get into unclip the other side. Its well hidden.

Can anyone help with tips, before I break it ?

Cheers

it is a bit hard mate, u have to use some force to pull it out forwards. iv had trouble every time iv had a go at it! there is no sign of a clip like u say, but it will just pull out eventually!

Sorted it. Unclipped the passenger side and then worked a blade underneath the instrument pod till it became free.

For future information - The Halfords code for the oil instument pod bulbs are 12V 1.2W 286

Right next job.

Has anyone ever had any problems with the backlights on the heater controls working intermittently? They sometimes come on when I’ve been over a bump. But the rest of the time they stay off. I think it could be a loose connection (but where).

Still no Haynes manual yet – so can anyone help me remover the heater controls to have a look?

Cheers
RiCh.

Id say the bulb needs changing in there too.

You need to remove your stereo
undo the 4 screws
remove the stereo flap and bit under the heater controls
undo 2 screws that hold the heater controls
Move it inwards and out so not to scratch it.
Refitting is the same in reverse.

Ooo Question for me that one - Newbie here - Howdy to all.

Just replaced my bulb (theres only 1) in my heater controls - Pretty easy really.

It actually inserts and rotates so if its not turned all the way that could be your problem.

Basically remove your radio and the two screws under the radio flap and the two screws under your heater controls - turn all you dials to the centre bottoms so you dont accidently put them on at different points, and unclip the black front pannel with your dials on - then you should be-able to just turn it over and pop a new one in!

The haynes manual lies anyway! It says it can be done without taking the front panel off -i wouldnt recommend it as i snapped the bugger (straight off to the scrappers! :) ).

Few!

Yep, I could have chosen a Bosch or Halfords bulb (both 12v 1.2W 286) but the Halfords one looked better made. (Im a product designer, so I know these things)

Thanks guys for the info on how to remove the heater panel, I really need to sort a Haynes manual. Ebay here I come.
