changing a door

  iceberg phase 2 172
Anyone on here changed a door on a 172 or similar ? Any special tools needed etc ? Is it just a case of swapping the locks , and the actual doors ? Any tips will be great as im deciding wether 2 get my door sprayed or just buy a 2nd hand door and fit that

Did mine the other week,
  • WD40 door pins, I disconnected battery for safety's sake as the passenger airbag isolation switch needs to be unplugged.
  • Remove the doorcard, wing mirror etc
  • Remove door handle (metal pin inside connecting it to lock mechanism!)
  • Now is a good time to get your existing lock barrell out, it is quite tricky to manouver around within the door, remove two bolts from the shut of door, remove white plastic horse-shoe shaped part thats now loose inside. Then unclip the metal door handle clip/pin from it all, barrell is held into the door by a thin white plastic nut, get whatever you can to turn this then its a case of wiggling the thin white nut around on the barrell, sending it to the left of the barrell to remove it. Barrell should then slide out of the door
  • Loosen check strap get a mate to support the door
  • Remove two small clips on door pins with long nose pliers, knock out door pins (I used a hammer and a 1/2" Drive extension bar)
  • Reverse to refit
